TotoToo Theatre 19.11.2020

Tototoo Theatre does not tolerate harassment of any kind. We were horrified and saddened at the recent accusations made against the manager of The Gladstone and his own statement of guilt. It is a privilege to be part of the Ottawa Theatre Community and participation is built on trust. We condemn his actions and stand with the victim. We renew our commitment to providing a safe environment for our volunteers. In further development in the past few days, it has been made... known to the public the allegations against one of the board members at The Gladstone Theatre, and how these actions have put the victim’s safety at risk. At the time of these allegations, this individual was also sitting on our Board of Directors. In standing with the victim, and seeing through our commitment to providing the safest work environment for all, we have ensured that he has been removed from the board. See more

A note from the director of Bare: A Pop Opera. "I want to share something with you, but if you're afraid of spoilers stop now, and read this after you've come and seen the show. When I was growing up in Northern Ontario homophobia and bigotry at times felt common place and my exit strategy was always clear. Graduate highschool. Leave and never come back. It was tough, but for me it was temporary. There was hope. ... It wasn't so simple for everyone. 20 years out of highschool and I still mourn the friends I lost along the way. They were strong for as long as they could bare and then when it became too much they exited stage right and out of our lives in the most permanent of ways. It shouldn't have been like that, and today it is why organizations like Toto Too who are dedicated to telling the queer perspective, and shows like Bare which expose us to the struggles of queer youth are so important to have. I'm happy you've read this far. Thank you. Please come and let the beauty of this show move you. And when you can, reach out to the queer youth in your life, at your work, in your school and let them know they are seen, and valued. It's so important. We need to do better. This is for my friend Jason. He should be here." ~ Josh Kemp thegladstone.ca/bare Photo Credit: Maria Vartanova
