Quick Tip! Preserve carved pumpkins with Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Castile and Unscented Balm! Considering all the years I've been carving pumpkins, I can't beli...eve I only learned this now! After you carve the pumpkin, wash it out with a squirt of peppermint in a bowl of water (probably 1 Tbsp. soap in 1 qt. water). Then rub the balm over all the inner surfaces. I like the way the outer surfaces shined up with the balm, so I rubbed it over that, too. A little balm goes a long way! I ended up having to wipe off excess. Every 2 days, rewash and apply balm to the pumpkin. I got mine to last about a week this way, which is far longer than the normal 2 day lifespan for carved pumpkins in our hot Octobers. I'm so glad I get to enjoy the decor of carved pumpkins for longer! Anyone else have a Halloween or Autumn tip to share??
