http://chng.it/whkwKXhdtX This issue affects Tottenham as well! All well water in the area comes from the Alliston Aquifer! The aquifer water flows North and the recharge area for the aquifer is there. As well, the aggregate breached the aquifer years ago!

UPDATE! The Hydrogeology Report shows several wells on both sites contaminated with Petroleum Hydrocarbons and Chloroform up to 14 times the MOE limits for safe... drinking water. The Town of Caledon is refusing to make the Environmental Assessments public!!!! URGENT NOTICE What do you call a Public Information Meeting with limited access to "information" and without the "public" in attendance? Apparently, this is how the Town of Caledon will now be conducting Public Information Meetings! Remember the company that had created a dump in our community? In a Natural Linkage Area of the Oak Ridges Moraine? In an area zoned in the Town of Caledons Official Plan as the Palgrave Estate Residential community? On land designated in our Official Plan as having the highest Environmental Protection Area? In an area identified as having the highest vulnerability aquifer in a community where every single residence relies on private wells for their drinking water? On a site right next to our open aquifer of a below-the-water table aggregate pit? (A sheer cliff would easily carry any contaminants directly into our aquifer. They wouldnt even have to travel through the soil.) The Town of Caledon ordered this demolition and abatement company to clean up the dump they created on site (e.g. ancient gas pumps, chemical containers with hazard stickers on them, dilapidated and rusty large construction equipment, open bins of commercial batteries, piles of old tires etc.) as the property is obviously not zoned for such a use. So how does the company respond? Instead of respecting our community and cleaning up the mess, they have applied for a change of zoning that will allow for open storage!!!! (Oh, and from what we can see a few other changes like gas tanks on the property because we all know that is necessary for them to operate the office they say they are using the property for.) This is absolutely outrageous and should not be allowed! But how has the Town of Caledon responded? They have scheduled a virtual Public Information Meeting on Tuesday, September 8th at 7:00 pm. Yes, you heard us correctly. That is the first day of school in what will be the most stressful first day of school back for parents the world over, not just in our community. The public can phone in to listen to the meeting but will not be allowed to speak. You can REQUEST to participate but there is a deadline to do so and you have to search out what that deadline is on the Town of Caledon website. To do this, please visit caledon.ca/development or call 905.584.2272 x.7338. It shouldnt be this hard! Your request to speak must be received on the Monday before the Tuesday meeting before 9:00 am! Yes, before 9:00 am on Labour Day, a statutory holiday, even though there will be no staff working that day to receive and process your request to speak. Here is the form you have to complete to REQUEST to be allowed to speak at the Public Information Meeting: https://forms.caledon.ca/do.aspx (It took a lot of work to find it!) But what are you going to speak about? Normally, with these types of applications, there is an Open House at Town Hall and you can attend and ask questions of the developer in advance of the meeting. There is then a presentation and the public is then invited to go up and ask questions (which are answered by the applicant) and make comments. You can go up more than once because sometimes new information is revealed and it may cause you to have additional comments or questions. None of this will be available to us now. The links to additional information were just loaded Friday as the Town website was being updated. We now have only two weeks to go through hundreds of pages of development application reports! Normally for a Public Information Meeting regarding a zoning change, information is available on the website or you can attend the Town offices to view the material. Because of COVID-19, we cannot attend the Town of Caledon offices. Because of COVID-19, we cannot attend a Public Information Meeting in person. Because of COVID-19, our Council is not meeting in person because it is too dangerous for them to do so. But it is apparently urgent for this abatement companys zoning change to be rushed through. We will have no opportunity to attend an Open House and ask questions. COVID-19 does not give our elected officials the right to take away our democratic rights. In fact, at no time have we ever more ferociously needed to guard and protect our rights! And has this Council not learned anything during this global health and economic crisis that the residents of Caledon deserve to have their health and safety protected? Should we not be allowed to protect our basic right to safeguard our water from blatant and egregious abuses? FINDING A LOOPHOLE To be very clear, neither of these applications are permitted uses for Natural Linkage Areas of the Oak Ridges Moraine or are permitted within the Town of Caledons Official Plan. You will notice that the application very strangely is only asking for a three-year temporary change of zoning. In reading the Planning Justification Report provided by Glenn Schnarr & Associates, they appear to be arguing that none of the applicable planning justification applies because it is only a temporary use. Are we really to believe that someone is going to go to the huge expense of building a six-bay gas station, pay for building that restaurant (rumoured to be a Tim Hortons), pay those huge franchising fees Please sign our petition to stop these applications and reschedule the Public Information Meeting to a time when the public can attend and participate! http://chng.it/z6M5qMDgrB

How many residents and business owners are aware of this Routine Water Servicing, potentially lasting up to five weeks starting tomorrow? *Industrial, Walkem & Park Crescent will be serviced or Flushed today, which means those areas are more likely to experience discoloured, cloudy, smelly drinking and household water than usual but areas without flushing might too?!... So who should run an empty washing machine on a cycle before use and who should run a empty dishwasher cycle too? Who should run their taps for 10 minutes or more (20? 30? Your guess is as good as ours!) Please drive carefully! Get your Turtle-vision on and drive for the country by looking far ahead and scanning road shoulders for wildlife. Look out for moving rocks.
