RESIDENT AND PUBLIC/COMMERICAL SNOWMOBILING SEASON IN GROS MORNE NATIONAL PARK DELAYED UNTIL FEBRUARY 11, 2021 The start of both the resident and public/commerc...ial snowmobiling seasons in Gros Morne National Park has been further delayed due to a lack of consistent freezing temperatures, inadequate snow cover and the weather forecast. The tentative opening date for the snowmobile season will now be February 11, 2021. Parks Canada is continuing to monitor snow conditions in this unusual winter and we will issue further notices as conditions change. The resident snowmobile season usually runs from November 1 to May 15, and the public/commercial snowmobiling season from January 15 to April 30. However, dates are subject to change at the discretion of Parks Canada due to factors such as, but not limited to, unfavorable snow conditions, dangerous conditions, or impact to vegetation, wildlife or ecosystems. Parks Canada thanks snowmobilers in advance for staying safe, respecting closure notices, staying inside designated corridors, staying away from exclusion zones, and working with our staff to protect and preserve our environment. By following the conditions of the snowmobile permits, riders will help ensure that the wonders of Gros Morne National Park are protected into the future. http://ow.ly/jXZf50DrjPf Information: 709-458-2417 [email protected] www.parkscanada.gc.ca/grosmorne @parkscanadaNL www.facebook.com/GrosMorneNL #GrosMorne

The Town Council and Birchy Head Recreation Committee have decided it would be excellent to have something for our kids/families to celebrate Christmas. Please DO NOT register your name on this post or a shared post because I may not see it. Be sure to read through the rules we have posted. Even though we want to celebrate, we need to do it in a safe and controlled manner. Keep in mind that changes may be required depending on updates by the Provincial Authority. If the ale...rt level changes the event will be cancelled. If you need more information send me a private message or email [email protected] Thanks for your cooperation and Merry Christmas!

Good Morning, Many of you have been inquiring about the announcement of the Universal Broadband Fund and how it affects us here in GBS. Council and I attended the zoom meeting with MP Gudie Hutchings last night and discussed the "Rapid Response Stream" for projects providing reliable connectivity to rural communities across Canada. Applications submitted under this stream of funding would need to be submitted by an ISP (Internet Service Provider), must be under $5 Million, m...ust be for an underserved area, and must offer an affordable service. The Town of GBS, together with the Town of Woody Point, have been working with Aldera Communications and have, as of today, submitted our application for funding. We meet all of the criteria, especially as an underserved community. Applications are due in January but are being processed as "First come, first serve" with response time of a few weeks, according to Gudie Hutchings. If Aldera Communications is approved then they would need an additional amount of time to secure pole installation locations and complete the connections. ALL approvals for installation must be completed by November 2021. The goal is to provide speeds up to 50/10 Mbps. Other Internet Service Providers (Eastlink, Bell, etc.) are welcome to also apply for funding if they want to keep their customer base in this area. If you have a provider that you want to connect with then please go ahead and ask them to be involved or else they will lose out. Also, thanks to Tanya for being on top of this. The Town of GBS was missed on the original correspondence for this funding. For more information on the program, visit https://crtc.gc.ca/eng/internet/internet.htm The Joint Council has been making an effort for years to improve our internet. I think we are in a good position to FINALLY get connected with reliable speeds. Cross your fingers for approval! Thank you! Myrna Goosney

Good evening everyone, Fire and Emergency services has sent an email to the town advising that Bonne Bay specifically may encounter higher winds than other areas. So please take this as notice to batten down the hatches! (I.e. secure bbqs and patio furniture and remove any of those remaining light weight garden ornaments and Halloween decorations). Stay safe everyone! Hopefully the lights stay on. Myrna
