COMMUNITY: As per Council's direction at last night's Committee of the Whole Meeting, the Town of Cobourg will be extending the operating hours for Rotary Harbourfront Outdoor Rink on weekdays to accommodate additional timeslots. PUBLIC WORKS: We are pleased to announce the completion of the Kerr Street Road Project, after many years of planning and months of construction. As identified in Cobourg's Transportation Master Plan, Kerr Street serves as an additional arterial road linking east to west, connecting the community and relieving traffic congestion on Elgin Street and King Street. The newly extended road covers 1.3km, provides important additional road frontage to previously inaccessible indus...trial land, deters unnecessary cut-through traffic in Northam Industrial park and on residential roads and provides a functional Active Transportation Network from Brook Road North through to the Midtown Creek Pond. The Midtown Creek Pond is designed to retain up to 50,000m3 of water during significant rainfalls and then slowly release water into the Midtown Creek in a controlled manner through the restricted culvert that run under Kerr Str...eet. The new Midtown Creek Pond received approval from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada for its meandering channel designed to promote fish habitat, provide rest areas for migrating fish and incorporates 175 trees and over 1,000 potted plants in the landscaping. COMMUNITY: Yesterday, Mayor John Henderson, Cobourg Councillor Nicole Beatty, Interim CAO Ian Davey and other Town staff gathered outside of Victoria Hall for a special cheque presentation. The Victoria Hall Volunteers announced the contribution of $20,000 to help offset the cost of the current restoration project of the pillars at the main entrance of Victoria Hall. Over the past 37 years, the Victoria Hall Volunteers have raised and donated over $356,030 to Victoria Hall. This year marks the 160th anniversary of the opening of Victoria Hall, which was celebrated with a Grand Ball with the Prince of Wales on September 6, 1860. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this year's celebration was postponed until June 12, 2021.

Ed's House will offer all hospice services currently provided by Community Care Northumberland 24 hours/day and 7 days/week at no cost to those receiving the service. A remarkable effort from conception to bricks and mortar and I commend all of those who have helped make this a reality, including the CCN Board of Directors, Ed's House Building Committee, Ed's House Campaign Team and the many donors and volunteers. COMMUNITY: During the August 31st Regular Council meeting, Municipal Council instructed Town staff to reopen Victoria Beach beginning Tuesday, September 8th, during the week and remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Before heading to the beach, please know: There are no lifeguards on duty. The canteen remains closed.... Nearby porta-potties are available. PUBLIC TRANSIT: The transit shelter located near Scotiabank at the Northumberland Mall has been temporarily relocated to the east mall entrance (near Gates College) due to ongoing construction in the parking lot. All transit routes will detour to pick-up and drop-off passengers at this temporary stop until further notice. Please contact the Engineering Department at 905-372-4555 if you have any questions.

COMMUNITY: The Highway of Heroes Living Tribute recently installed a plaque in Chris Garrett Park to mark the location of the #HOHTribute trees and continue to honour the legacy of the heroes that the trees represent. Since 2015, 2 million trees have been planted as part of the Highway of Heroes Tree Campaign to honour every Canadian who has served in the Canadian Armed Forces since Confederation and including the war of 1812. #ATreeForEveryHero The Town of Cobourg is honour...ed have over 2,000 trees along our #Highway401 corridor and surrounding areas, including 50 trees planted in Chris Garrett Park. PUBLIC WORKS: We would like to advise citizens that we will be repairing the wooden boardwalk between Ontario Street and Bagot Street on August 27, 2020 in the morning. In order to safely complete the repairs, the boardwalk will be closed to all traffic (pedestrians and cyclists) for the duration of the work. The boardwalk may be accessed from the south-end of Bagot Street for those wishing to travel east along the path.
