The Capital area Mayors and Chief Administrative Officers of the City of Charlottetown, Town of Stratford PEI and Town of Cornwall PEI are encouraging the Prince Edward Island Government to finalize the process of appointing the Board of Directors for the Charlottetown Area Development Corporation (CADC). The City and Town officials met at Charlottetown City Hall today (Thursday, October 8th as part of their joint commitment to meet regularly to discuss issues of regional im...portance. The newly-revamped CADC fills two important roles to act as a catalyst with the private sector and to bring together various levels of the business community to initiate development projects and urban renewal. The CADC Board represents Charlottetown and Stratford. Cornwall will be joining shortly. The Board also includes positions designated by the Province. The Province had started the process of advertising for potential Board members in the Fall of 2019, but the process was never completed to our knowledge, said Charlottetown Mayor Philip Brown. While we all appreciate that we are in a pandemic and there have been other priorities, we need to have some stability in the Board and, respectfully, ask for the Province to finalize the appointments so we can move forward with our important collaboration with CADC. The mandate of Charlottetown Area Development Corporation is to provide innovation, investment, and expertise for individual projects of economic and social benefit that government or the private sector are not prepared to execute alone. The Town of Cornwall is looking forward to joining the regional body, said Cornwall Mayor Minerva McCourt. The work of the Board and our collective involvement speaks to enhanced cooperation, which can only benefit our citizens overall. CADC currently manages seven parking facilities, including the Pownal, Fitzroy and Queen parkades and parking at Harbourside, Peakes Wharf and Queens Wharf. It has also developed properties such as Founders’ Hall, the Southport Landing Development Area in Stratford, the Charlottetown Event Grounds, and the Bio Commons Business Park, among other projects. CADC has an important mandate for the Town of Stratford in terms of the protection of the CADC property on our waterfront, said Stratford Mayor Steve Ogden. We’re looking forward to a renewed focus on the overall promotion of the whole Capital region, as well. For more information about CADC, visit: http://cadcpei.com/ Other topics discussed by the Mayors and CAOs included the regional housing demand study, additional revenue sharing with the Province of PEI, proposed Municipal Government Act (MGA) amendments, and the regional active transportation network.
