The twenty-first annual food drive in Esquimalt is off to a generous start. To date, roughly the volume of twelve garbage cans of non-perishable food has been collected. The Township of Esquimalt’s annual food drive is an essential way for Esquimalt Neighbourhood House to restock its ‘emergency food’ cupboard every year, said Mary Lynn McKenna, Executive Director for Esquimalt Neighbourhood House. Normally (pre-COVID19), the township’s annual food drive allows Esquimalt N...eighbourhood House to have non-perishable food on hand for the short-term food needs of community members, until at least early fall every year. Last year, the township delivered three full van loads of food donations, estimated at 2,500 pounds. Township and CUPE staff are collecting food in support of Esquimalt Neighbourhood House until December 18. We're taking food drop offs at the public works yard (601 Canteen Rd) and at the #Esquimalt branch of the Greater Victoria Public Library . https://www.esquimalt.ca//esquimalt-continues-food-drive-t

Esquimalt, Did You Know: When it comes to GHG emissions, "What we eat is important. Where food comes from, depending on whether food is flown, refrigerated or ...freighted, is also important. After buildings and transportation, food is the largest portion of our indirect emissions. There are a few ways we can work together to reduce our consumption-based emissions and personal GHG footprints. One way is by choosing food with lower GHG emissions, more often than meat, fish, eggs, and dairy products. We can also produce more food within the region by supporting local farmers through markets and community-supported agriculture (CSA) programs. - Esquimalt Community Climate Plan engagement. What do you think the Township of Esquimalt should focus on? Have your say on low-carbon food choices. https://esquimalt-climate-engagement.ethelo.net/ Ethelo and the eDemocracy Network are proud to facilitate this engagement for the Township of Esquimalt.
