Course Management ServiceOnline Caddie How can we save you a couple strokes! I believe this side of the game is overlooked by many golfers. Most golfers believe that if they hit their driver further and straighter they will automatically shoot better scores. Not always the case, but I do encourage each golfer to maximize their skill set and golfing ability. Here’s how to decide which club to hit off the tee: ... 1. First step is to gain knowledge! What obstacles are out there and what do I need to avoid? Where is the wind? Is the ball carrying further or shorter today because of elevation or atmospheric conditions? (Temperature plays a role in distance) Am I able to get to this par 5 in two shots, if I hit driver? 2. What are my carry numbers? How far does my Driver carry? What club will allow me to stay short of the trouble and give me the largest landing area? 3. What is my dispersion pattern? If I hit Driver, how much room do I need to ensure I can get this ball in play? What is my general ball flight? Where should I aim? 4. Make your decision based on evidence and statistics. Using Trackman can allow you to understand dispersion patterns, ball flight patterns and carry/total yardages. This will allow you to make the correct decision based on your skill set. 5. Trust your decision and execute! Even if that decision was the incorrect one, I’d rather the player be confident in the decision he/she made than be doubting it. Let me know what your decision would be based on your skill set. I hope this brought light into what elite players and caddies are doing to ensure they will give themselves the best possible chance at shooting a lower score on that hole and overall round! Scenario: #1 +2 handicap golfer Carries driver 285-290 yards Dispersion pattern with driver is 120ft Ball flight pattern is a draw (Right handed golfer) Weather Conditions: 25 degrees Celsius, No wind. Based on the knowledge and statistics this golfer should be hitting Driver. (Aiming down the right/centre of fairway) @ Piper's Heath Golf Club
