Effective Friday, March 20, 2020, our office doors will be locked in order to be socially responsible and perform our part in helping stop the spread of COVID-19. Please note, this does not mean that you cannot drop off or pick-up documents. Someone will be in our office from Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm. We have indicated how to proceed with in-person drop-offs below. The CRA has announced that for the first time ever, the T183, both individual ...and corporate returns can now be digitally signed. This means we can now practice safe social distancing. Our firm is well equipped with the technology that will enable us to continue to work, even virtually, to ensure that work stays on schedule while still taking precautions. Where possible, we encourage you to provide us with your documents, electronically. If you have the ability to scan and send your documents for personal or corporate taxes to us electronically, we kindly encourage you to do so. We have a secure portal available for you to upload your documents, using the Upload Files button at top of our main webpage at www.teniscipiva.com. Alternatively, these documents can be sent to [email protected]. If you are unable to provide documents electronically, our office has implemented a new policy to maintain social distancing as follows: 1. If possible, please call ahead of time to let us know when you plan to stop by. 2. When you arrive, please call 250-372-7655 for instruction (we will unlock the door for you and have a box for your drop off or alternatively have a table with your documents laid out for signature). Our Team will be wiping down the door handles and tables after each use for your protection as well as ours. If you want to book a meeting with us, we can accommodate you virtually through Zoom (you do not have to have it installed and we provide you with the instructions) or over the phone. CRA FILING DEADLINE UPDATE DEFERRAL TO JUNE 1, 2020 (INDIVIDUALS) https://www.canada.ca//canadas-covid-19-economic-response-... Flexibility for Taxpayers In order to provide greater flexibility to Canadians who may be experiencing hardships during the COVID-19 outbreak, the Canada Revenue Agency will defer the filing due date for the 2019 tax returns of individuals, including certain trusts. - For individuals (other than trusts), the return filing due date will be deferred until June 1, 2020. However, the Agency encourages individuals who expect to receive benefits under the GSTC or the Canada Child Benefit not to delay the filing of their return to ensure their entitlements for the 2020-21 benefit year are properly determined. - For trusts having a taxation year ending on December 31, 2019, the return filing due date will be deferred until May 1, 2020. The Canada Revenue Agency will allow all taxpayers to defer, until after August 31, 2020, the payment of any income tax amounts that become owing on or after today and before September 2020. This relief would apply to tax balances due, as well as instalments, under Part I of the Income Tax Act. No interest or penalties will accumulate on these amounts during this period.
