To those who know and care about someone with Aphasia!! Here's an excellent article that underscores the importance of treating the "conversational exchange" between people with aphasia and those they engage with by helping Communication Partners (CP) become more effective supports. Essentially, the becomes a ramp, increasing communication access to the person with aphasia:)

Wow! Great, innovative use of higher-tech for speech development for individuals with Apraxia of Speech or Autism! The technology draws on "age-old" speech therapy practice of drawing clients' attention to a speaker's mouth as a way of stimulating and facilitating more accurate speech productions in themselves. I'm thinking this engages our brain's mirror neurons somehow, but who knows for sure??

The data is satisfying to my "professional side", but also somewhat disheartening to my mother's heart... I'm sure my choices about my daughters' participation in high-level hockey and soccer for so many years would have been different had I known then what the evidence shows now.
