The KVR Rail Trail travels alongside many riparian stretches of the Kettle River in the Kettle River watershed. This article is a reminder for "leave no trace" and the impacts our outdoor activities have on the wildlife who live on the landscape. Christmas Bird Count! Start your count on Christmas morning and end it at dark on December 31st. Count method: Try your best to ID by species all the birds you see and also do your best to count all individuals. Sometimes for large flocks a best estimate is all you can obtain. Record these sightings daily. At the end of the count period add up the totals and send the results to Fred preferably via E-Mail. Avoid double counting and do not send your cumulative count by sp...eciesonly the highest/day by species. For example, if you see a Ruffed grouse one day and see a different one on another day then your Ruffed Grouse count would be 2. If you have a flock of California quail that visit you regularly, only include the flock once---however, you many need to count it a few times to get a good estimate of the exact number present Also, it is more fun to see if the flock varies by size over the count period. Always record the highest count you observed. PM us if you want to record on the Trans Canada Trail! and we'll get you connected with the Boundary count master. Photo by Shayne Kaye. You may not be able to travel to the area or get out on the trail because you don't want to ruin it in the wet rain, but there is always #buylocal shopping to be had. Photos from the rail trail between Greenwood and Rock Creek. Lots of people walking and a few fatbikers around which was great to see. Shoulder season is pretty long - with very little snow in Dec... get out there to run, walk and bike to get in shape for snowshoeing and skiing which is coming to the neighbourhood soon. Getting outside helps to make the winter short, and it'll be spring before we know it!

While we're being patient staying local, be sure to support local stores and shops - When you support local business you are supporting our local Boundary Country BC economy, putting food on a families table and creating jobs for our communities. We're looking forward to welcoming rail trail fans back when travel recommendations are recinded, but for now daydream and plan for your next trip on the KVR Rail Trail! Luckily there is plenty of room on the rail trail to physically distance.... Going for a walk. You must make sure a walk does not turn into a group of people meeting outside. Eholt a day ago. There is about 25 cm in the area. Good for cross country skiing. Be sure to stay local and keep to your "bubble". Hopefully next year this time, we'll be welcoming you back to the rail trail to enjoy the quiet and slower pace of the Boundary region. #kvr #crosscountryski #BoundaryBC #explorelocal

By providing safe spaces for users to enjoy physical activity and recreation, trails help to improve not only physical but also mental health. The fact that nat...ure and physical activity have been found to improve mental health has important implications for today’s high levels of pandemic-driven mental stress. See more

"In an environment that is composed of obstacles, be it in nature or various buildings and facilities, creating a user friendly experience that gives ease to everyone involved, regardless of their accessibility requirements, is essential. " "Accessibility and Inclusion in the Thompson Okanagan region and throughout British Columbia has become the main focus and topic of conversation in the tourism industry. The BC Tourism Ministry identified that making tourism more accessible & inclusive for all is one of their top priorities." Nice and quiet at Eholt. The weather will melt a lot of the snow, but there is still a little that will hang on. Nice to see walkers out and about .

Serious shift of season overnight. Greenwood yesterday had a snowfall warning, received 12 inches, Beaverdell is reporting the same. If you plan on being on the rail trail, make sure you keep your plans with someone so if there is any issues someone can know you are overdue. Beauty days on the KVR Rail Trail. Linear greenspaces including trails and greenways have all the traditional conservation benefits of preserving greenspace, but also have additional benefits by way of their linear nature. As tools for ecology and conservation, greenways and trails help preserve important natural landscapes, provide needed links between fragmented habitats, and offer tremendous opportunities for protecting plant and animal species. They also can be useful ...tools for wetland preservation and improvement of air and water quality. In addition, they can allow humans to experience nature with minimal environmental impact. We took "Let's Go Biking Okanagan" author Colleen McDonald on the rail trail last week on a fine fall day. The route between Beaverdell and Rock Creek is about 50 km slightly downhill, and follows the Kettle River closely. It's a section which contains magical spots along the river, the railtrail is a great way to visit this region and enjoy the magnificent colours of autumn and the Kettle River.
