Morning Routines I am a sucker for a good morning routine. 10 minutes of Yoga or Mobility movement in silence as coffee is brewing sets the stage for a good day!... What I have been working on is, when the morning doesn't go as perfectly as planned... (kids wake up early, I sleep in, out of coffee)... to not let that set the tone for the rest of the day. Attitude is everything. Positivity breeds positivity. The opposite is also true... How well are you able to shift your mindset when things aren't going as planned? Give it a go! it only takes 10minutes for a great start to your day. This post was going to be asking about how do you treat yourself special on your days off.... and this was supposed to be me happily relaxed about to sip my coffee topped with whipped cream... but the whipped cream melted ... ... and it looks like I'm praying to the coffee gods .... I probably should... Oh Mighty Coffee God's- please give me the energy, strength and patience to survive the weekend of children staying indoors with the temperature being -39 after bringing piles of Valentines candy home from school. Anywhoo.... I love whipped cream in my coffee. And drinking it in silence before the kids wake up. For some reason I only ever get one or the other... never both... What do you do to treat yourself special?! *side note: I don't only have it on my days off... because there's no such thing as "treat days" in my world... just choices. Delicious whipped topping choices.*

How do you speak to yourself? Negative self-talk is part of a cycle that stimulates the basal ganglia (in the brain) to release dopamine. Dopamine leads to habit formation and addictionthat could be a real problem.... You see, your brain not only has the potential to create more negative self-talk from just that first little bit. It also can trigger a reward pathway to make you addicted to that negative self-talk! Positive self-talk and self-compassion is so important! You know what the MOST COMMON thing I hear is? "I NEED MORE ACCOUNTABILITY!" The need for somethingANDsomeoneto keep us accountable to to help keep us on track towards our goals.... As much as we wouldLOVEto be able to just be driven to wake up everydayand go put in the work required without any type of external forces but simply for the sheer fact that we know it isgood for us....It just isn't the way it works...not usually right away anyways - because if it did, everyone would be doing it. Well, here's the good news, eventually, you may get there. Eventually you've created a habit and your body craves the movement and the nutritionally dense food. But we cannot just wake up one morning and decide that this is now a habit and naturally do it everyday without a backwards glance. We have to put in the work. We need to show a little discipline. And to build up that discipline, we need someone to answer to. Someone by your side cheering you on. Someone who is working along with you to reach their own goals so they know what you are going through. And someone to connect with along your journey - someone to make it FUN! So often we get so caught up in the details that we lose sight of the bigger picture. If you don't have the BASICS mastered, the detailed aspects will not create lasting change. To get back to basics you must UNLEARN the details that have been ingrained in your brain to be essential to your success. ... Things like.... Calorie counting No more treats No more wine Endless hours in the gym Cooking separate meals for you and your family Weighing every food morsel Detailed meal plans with weird ingredients "Drinking" your meals All the detoxing... so many detoxes... IT SHOULDN'T BE THAT HARD!! And it isn't...NONE of the above stuff is necessary! If we learned how to listen and trust our bodies and what it needs. But thats a process. We've spent so long following the "rules" that the "experts" have made for us to "drop 10 lbs in 10 days!" (And gain 20lb back over the following 20 days) and being ashamed when our body is craving carbs, or enjoys a glass of wine or heaven forbid, has a piece of cake at a birthday party - that we've forgotten how to love food and what it does for us! We need to start from the beginning. And perhaps, while re-learning how to trust our bodies, we will learn what makes us feel good. And feel energized. And makes us want to move. To be healthy and fit, set good habits to live by day after day that serve you and your life. Don’t fall for the fad traps or what may have worked for a friend/relative co-worker - because they are not you nor are they living your life. Diet products are so tremendously successful because they often make promises of rapid and easy weight loss, leading us to set unrealisticgoalsfor ourselves. Although it is tempting to want to shed 5 lbs in a week or drop 2 dress sizes i...n a month, these goals are often doomed to meet failure. When we inevitably fail to meet these unrealistic goals, we are often left with self-hatred andguilt. By thinking about weight loss as something that should happen gradually, embracing small changes and lifelong goals, we stand to improve our physical and mental health without all the restriction and regret.
