ATTN COMMERCIAL VEHICLE DRIVERS: We've installed NO TRUCKS LEFT LANE signs at Larson Hill on the Coquihalla Hwy (both directions). Commercial vehicles can no longer travel in the 3rd left lane, which keeps a path open for plows and other traffic, if trucks spin out. Please chain up as required!

The Sea to Sky corridor is one of the most beautiful drives in the world, taking motorists along dramatic cliffs where the Coast Mountains meet the sea. Go back to 1966, when the highway was a single lane in each direction: https://www.tranbc.ca//bc-road-trip-time-machine-highway-/

ATTN QUESNEL AREA MOTORISTS: The intersection of Hwy 97 at Juniper Road is being deactivated, to improve safety. Traffic on Hwy 97 will no longer be able to exit the highway at this location, and traffic on Juniper Road will no longer be able to access Hwy 97. Instead, traffic will be redirected to the adjacent Hwy 97 intersections at Quesnel-Hydraulic Road or Larch Avenue. ... The change has been made, because the intersection's configuration, combined with significant volumes of commercial traffic, contributed to a collision rate that was higher than the provincial average. Changeable message signs have been placed on the roads advising people of the deactivation.

Properly wearing your seatbelt reduces the risk and severity of motor vehicle-related injuries and fatalities, by more than 40%. In B.C. from 2012 to 2016, about one-in-five vehicle crash victims (18%) were not wearing a seatbelt (includes seatbelts, lap belts, infant/child seats and booster seats). Buckle up!

November is THE time of year for deer-vehicle crashes which can cause serious injuries and loss of life. Right now deer are answering nature's call to mate, and may run in front of vehicles at any time. Males are extra interested in female deer, and may challenge other males -- without paying attention to their surroundings. Be especially watchful at dawn, dusk and night, when deer feed and get together. Slow down by deer crossing signs, which have been installed due to a high numbers of deer-vehicle collisions. Commercial Carriers: There is a planned 24-hour outage of our Height Clearance Tool on DriveBC, so we can make improvements to the system. We will be unable to issue over-height and over-width permits between Tuesday, Oct 27 at 6 pm and Wednesday, Oct 28 at 6 pm. Because the height (and width) clearance information will be unavailable during that time, permits for height over 4.3 m and/or width over 3.8 m cannot be obtained from either ministry offices or through our websites.... We ask that carriers please plan ahead and purchase any expected permits before this outage. More: https://cvse.ca//Notice05-20-Height-Clearance-Tool-Service

Ways to leave the phone alone while you're behind the wheel: * Turn it to silent and keep it out of reach and out of sight, or turn on airplane mode. * Assign a designated texter. Ask your passengers to make or receive calls and texts for you. * Pull over to make or receive a call when it's safe to do so. For longer trips, stop at rest areas, some of which now have free Wi-Fi.... * Use the 'Do Not Disturb While Driving' feature on iOS devices, 'In-Traffic Reply' on Samsung phones, or download a similar app. Thanks ICBC for the advice!
