Boating Ontario is asking their members to write to their local MP’s regarding the impact the proposed luxury tax will have on our business and the industry as a whole. The tax will be a 10 per cent tax on automobiles, boats and planes for noncommercial use, if valued at $100,000-plus. When the U.S. imposed a 10% luxury tax on yachts some years ago it virtually killed that yacht building industry. Our very own Brad Kane VP of Transat Marine Company attended a meeting thi...s morning to meet with John Brassard - Member of Parliament Barrie-Innisfil and three MP’s from other local ridings and 10 marine business owners in the area of Barrie Ontario. The meeting was very productive, and there were some good suggestions put forward on how to work towards having the marine industry removed from the proposed luxury tax. However, it will take efforts from across the country for all parties to recognize the negative economic impact this targeted tax will have. Please take the time to contact your local MP and let them know what you think of this tax!
