Myth #4 about hypnosis It is magic Hypnosis/Hypnotherapy is a well respected self improvement modality. Some form of hypnosis has been used since ancient times for healing all kinds of physical and mental afflictions. In more modern times it is based on many years of of clinical research by famous psychologists as Dr Sigmund Freud, Dr Carl Jung, Dr Milton Erikson and many other physician contributors (which are to numerous to mention). ... There is nothing magical about hypnosis/hypnotherapy. Quite simply, a hypnotist is trained in techniques to guide you the client; to self discovery and personal transformation so you can make the changes you desire in your life. The effectiveness of hypnosis/hypnotherapy depends on your ability to follow instructions, use your imagination and understand your feelings. A wide variety of medical and scientific associations/organizations have endorsed hypnosis/hypnotherapy as a reliable alternative or complimentary modality for many day to day issues that people face. However, it would be necessary to get a doctors referral for anyone being followed by a doctor for a medical condition. You are the magic that makes hypnosis/hypnotherapy work.

Myth #3 about hypnosis I am not hypnotizable There are 3 reasons that I know of why someone could not go in to a hypnotic state. (If they are 100% committed to making that change to transform their life.)... 1) They will block themselves from accessing their subconscious mind because bringing up those feelings is something they do not or can not deal with at that moment. 2) They will have misconceptions about hypnosis or not feel comfortable. If they have not addressed their worries or concerns with their hypnotist fear can block the process. 3) Psychotic people or people on psychotic medication will not be hypnotizable as they can not enter a hypnotic state. Although some may require a little more time than others to start everyone else is hypnotizable.

Myth #2 about hypnosis You will make me say things or do things against my will We have a built in protective mechanism that will not allow us to do anything that goes against our morals and values. In fact we are in a heightened state of awareness and know exactly what is happening around us. ... But what about those people on stage that quack like a duck? They have been chosen by the hypnotist because they are eager and willing participants and have already proven they have no problem with putting on a good show. Perhaps it is their moment in the spotlight. As my instructor said and I quote " If I could make people do things I would have them rob a bank, bring me the money and then have them forget about it." As far as revealing deep secrets it will not happen. We can be guided to remember forgotten memories but whether we choose to reveal them or not is our choice. So in summary, being in hypnosis is a safe place to be to overcome our issues.Nothing will be said or done that we are unaware of; or that goes against our beliefs.

Myth #1 about hypnosis. People do not "go under". Being in hypnosis is a natural state that we experience all the time. ... One example, being so focused on a thought when driving in the car that we forget to make a turn or miss an exit. This is referred to as Highway Hypnosis. Another example is being so focused on a book we are reading that we don't hear or see anything else. So, in conclusion being in Hypnosis is being in a heightened state of focus and attention.
