Hi friends! I’m excited to share my new project, DLTCMD (pronounced deletecommand), with all of you! DLTCMD is a budding design collective working for the v...ision of a sustainable web. We design simple and lightweight websites that load fast, reducing the energy needed to power them and their overall carbon footprint. We also use servers that run on renewable energy! Why are we doing this? Because the data centres that power the internet consume MASSIVE (and growing) volumes of energy, and rarely use renewable sources. If we think about the internet as a country, it would be the 6th largest polluter (see: Sustainable Web Manifesto’s comparison of Total ICT emissions from How to stop data centres from gobbling up the world’s electricity compared with Carbon emission by country). We believe it’s our responsibility as designers to reimagine our practice so that the products (physical and digital) we create don’t continue to exploit our natural resources. We’re committed to working socially and locally for small businesses, individuals, organizations, and movements that work to enrich our communities and build resilience. If you’d like to learn more about us or work with us, contact me via our site or at [email protected]. If you’re curious about the carbon footprint of your own website, test it now on websitecarbon.com! The results may surprise you! Check out our low-carbon website and read our manifesto at dltcmd.com Thank you Christopher Mark Kaltenbach for all your help bringing this vision to life.

Application of biochar could save farmers more than 50% of the water they now use to grow crops. That represents a significant immediate savings combined with the established environmental benefits of biochar according to a new study from Rice University. http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp

In case you missed it, we published a quick summary of DIY box fan/air filter options for classrooms, offices, and other indoor spaces. These can help to reduce... exposure to COVID aerosols by trapping viral particles in the filter material. You can download it here, and also read more about ventilation and filtration on the Blue House Energy blog. https://bluehouseenergy.com//3-principles-good-iaq-elimina

Paul Stamets, the mycologist, and Thom Hartmann will be there. If you want to know about Columbus and first contact with native peoples here in the Americas, listen to Thom's audio. But beware, you'll need a strong stomach.
