Our focus is the transit system, but Transit Police dogs often end up working all over Metro Vancouver, including YVR. Watch below to see how Strider lets his human partner know that he's found an explosive odour. To see more videos, give the Dog Unit a follow on Twitter at https://twitter.com/MVTPK9
Yesterday, three new recruit constables were sworn in. As a result, Transit Police gained: a post graduate student, a reserve constable, 4 different languages, an outreach worker for sex workers & homeless youth, significant management experience, an experienced plumber, a loss prevention officer who recovered over $60K worth of goods, a competitive hockey player and two youth coaches. All of this in just three people!
This year has been unique and challenging in many ways but Metro Vancouver Transit Police accomplished much while continuing to serve a diverse community across Metro Vancouver and ended the year by using their work holiday party savings, (which is funded by employees) to help those in need. #byebye2020 #HappyNewYear2021
This holiday season, more than ever, Transit Police officers and civilian staff are doing whatever they can to make sure that everyone is looked after. Work holiday parties are funded by Transit Police officers & civilian staff themselves. This year, the money they've been saving all year for social events will be donated instead. $1650 will go to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank and $850 to the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau. Along with transit employees from across TransL...ink, they donated new toys to the Lower Mainland Christmas Bureau, ensuring that every child gets a visit from Santa. Building personal relationships is at the heart of our community policing approach, so when A Squad realized that a kind employee at their regular coffee shop was going through a difficult time, they reached into their own pockets to help her out. She confessed that as a newcomer to Canada, they had completely shifted her view of police who were not well regarded where she was from. See more
Cannabis is now legal, but that doesn't mean you can just set up your own market and start selling outside of a busy SkyTrain station. This Illegal merchandise was seized and $575 ticket issued to one such would-be entrepreneur. Regulations are in place to protect lawful businesses & to ensure products are safe for consumers.

Today we remember the men and women who sacrificed so much for our freedom. While Constable Amanda Steed represented our department at the City of New Westminster virtual Remembrance Day ceremony (visit their Facebook page to watch), other officers took the time to pay their respects privately and with each other.
Heading out on transit? Don't forget to wear your mask.
Meet Strider, the newest Transit Police explosive detection dog. Strider is a one-year-old Deutsch Drahthaar, the first of his breed to be working for a Canadian police agency. This past weekend, Strider and his human partner, Cst. Campagne, watched over a peaceful protest to ensure the safety of everyone there. If you see Strider on your next transit trip, be sure to say hello! Follow the Transit Police K9 Unit on Twitter to stay updated on what all of the dogs are up to: https://twitter.com/MVTPK9
