[Le français suit] Ayden Scheim is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Drexel University (Philadelphia), and an Affiliate Scientist in the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute at St. Michael’s Hospital (Toronto). Ayden conducts community-engaged research with trans communities, people who use drugs, and other marginalized populations in Canada and internationally. Meet the research team! [Le français suit] Sharp is a non-binary, niizh-manitowag person of Sauk/Fox/Cherokee and Irish ancestry. They live and work in the unceded traditional territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabeg people, commonly known as Ottawa. Sharp is a Helper in the Indigenous and other communities and she has been involved in community service through both employment and volunteer work. Sharp is a drummer/singer, pow wow dancer who uses ALL the prounouns in every con...text and he has a wicked sense of humour which is skillfully applied to put people at ease. Sharp is also a military veteran, martial artist, trained as a social service worker and has been self-employed as a consultant since early 2016. / Sharp est une personne non binaire niizh manitowag de descendance sauk, fox, cherokee et irlandaise. Vivant et travaillant sur le territoire ancestral non cédé du peuple algonquin anishinaabeg connu sous le nom d’Ottawa, Sharp est une personne aidante au sein de la communauté autochtone et dans d’autres communautés, et a participé à l’action communautaire tant comme membre du personnel rémunéré que bénévole. Sharp est percussionniste, pratique le chant et la danse lors de pow-wow, et utilise TOUS les pronoms dans tous les contextes, en plus de posséder un remarquable sens de l’humour, qui lui sert entre autres à mettre les gens à l’aise. Meet our research team! French follows. Connie Merasty is a two spirited woman from Opaskwayak Cree Nation in northern Manitoba. Connie is currently pursuing a teaching certificate to teach the Cree language. In the past few years, Connie has worked on several documentaries based on the history of two spirit people on Turtle Island. Connie has volunteered on many boards including Canadian Aboriginal AIDS Network, Two Spirit People of Manitoba and Like That with Sunshine House... in Winnipeg. Connie is a trained actor and drag performer and has performed in live theatre productions, and is a sometimes writer. / / Connie Merasty est une femme bispirituelle de la nation crie Opaskwayak, du nord du Manitoba. Connie étudie présentement en vue de l’obtention d’un certificat en enseignement pour enseigner la langue crie. Au cours des deux dernières années, elle a travaillé à plusieurs projets de documentaires inspirés de l’histoire des personnes bispirituelles de l’île de la Tortue. Connie a aussi siégé bénévolement à de nombreux conseils d’administration, dont celui du Réseau canadien autochtone du sida, de l’organisme Two Spirit People of Manitoba, et Like That avec Sunshine House de Winnipeg. Randy is an Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work at McMaster University with a joint-appointment in the Department of Health, Aging and Society. Originally from Kettle and Stony Point First Nation (Anishinaabe), Jackson explores lived experience among Indigenous peoples living with HIV and AIDS (IPHAs) using Indigenous knowledge, perspectives and values. His research has explored diverse topics, including for ex...ample, experiences of depression, resilience, and leadership. Randy is the recipient of a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012) for his research work in the area of HIV among Indigenous peoples. // Randy est professeur adjoint à l’école de travail social de l’Université McMaster, où il est nommé conjointement au département de la santé, du vieillissement et de la société de cette université. Provenant de la Première Nation anishnabée Kettle and Stony Point, Randy explore le vécu de personnes autochtones vivant avec le VIH-sida (IPHA ou Indigenous People Public Health Association) à l’aide du savoir, des perspectives et des valeurs autochtones. Ses travaux de recherche lui ont permis de se pencher sur diverses questions, dont l’expérience de la dépression, la résilience et le leadership.
