Canine SOS 10.02.2021

As some of you know Ive had dogs for nearly 30yrs and have always had a knowledge and insight in their behavior and have managed to keep a balanced pack for the most part. From Claire to Callie, to my alpha Oscar and now Babette. This is a sad day saying goodbye to Babette my final dog. Unfortunately this line of work is not financially profitable so I had to make a choice and chose to put canine sos on hold until further notice. Babette was recently diagnosed with cushings disease and even though she was doing well today she was found unresponsive and she was laid to rest.

With the heat lately its common for dogs to find the nearest water source even if it is mud. The neck and belly of a dog is the area that gets overheated the fastest. Its not a popular season indoors for muddy dogs once the mud dries and end up on floors lots of cleaning floors during this season however a dirty dog is a happy dog. Always a reason to choose joy

Ive been home the past few weeks and been missing walking with a pack. I crave a pack and although i only have Babette and now my brothers dog Boomer it isnt quite the same without a big dog so my friend Denise and her canine Jack has joined us and now my pack is complete I couldn't be happier to wear my fanny pack again. Always a reason to choose joy

My beautiful little Babette has Cushing disease and I am very distressed and disappointed in myself. She has been showing signs of diabetes for quite some time so I changed her diet and increased her exercise however after very little change I finally took her in. After a myriad of tests she was diagnosed and will have to take pills for the remainder of her life. As suspected meds are pricey and at her age I ponder thoughts like quality of life and whether I should trust my i...nstincts and do my own medicine as I have always done for my children. Im on the fence should I will follow Drs advice and give pharmaceuticals or skip the expense and do herbs. I came up with a compromise and decided to do meds for a few months and then maintain with herbs. So those of you who have known Babette and mistook her being overweight for something else their is now a reason for her weight, her abdomen is extremely bloated by the disease so hopefully with medication she can have her slim figure back.
