Travelling Manitoban 15.01.2021

(Skip to 1:05 for the station) The Old City Hall Station in New York City was the first subway station in New York City, with construction being approved in 1900, opening in 1904, and closing in 1945. While closed to the public, the New York Transit Museum offers exclusive guided tours. When available, tickets require a security clearance for purchase and sell out quickly! It is still possible to (briefly) see the station without a guided tour, however!... Take the 6 (Green) train heading downtown. When the train makes its final stop at the Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall station, passengers will be told to exit. Stay on the train (but be discreet!) The train will turn around, passing through the old City Hall Station in the process.

Pinawa Dam It's hard to believe it's already September! This year hasn't been ideal, but being unexpectedly back home for the past few months has made me appreciate Manitoba, and to explore new places in the province that I never knew existed and likely would not have visited otherwise. I hope everyone's had a great summer and the chance to get out and explore our beautiful province! #exploreMB

The Old Pinawa Dam can be found north of the town of Pinawa, Manitoba and about an hour and a half north-east of Winnipeg. Built in 1903 on the Lee River, Pinawa Dam was the first year-round hydroelectric generating station to be built in Manitoba, and marked the beginning of hydroelectric development on the Winnipeg River. The station remained in operation until it was decommissioned in 1951 in order to allow the full flow of the Winnipeg River to serve the Seven Sisters Hyd...ro Station built downstream in Whiteshell, Manitoba. Much of the structure was then dismantled and used by the Canadian military as a training site for aerial bombing. Pinawa Dam Provincial Heritage Park was designated a provincial park by the Government of Manitoba in 1985. The park is open to visitors daily from 9am to 9pm, and the dam is accessible by trails throughout the park.

Did you know? Just under half an hour north-east of Winnipeg and 15 minutes east of Birds Hill in the town of Cooks Creek (Springfield), Manitoba is one of the largest Ukrainian Catholic churches in Western Canada! The Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church was completed in 1952 after 22 years of construction, and designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1996. Unfortunately due to COVID-19, the interior is currently closed, however the grounds remain open to visitors every day from 6am to 9pm. Now's the time to get out and #exploreMB!
