Wanted to share a travel tip as we're getting close to the end of school and people are starting to get ready for their summer vacations. I see so many trailers around my neighbourhood - it's like they've bloomed in the rain! I know a lot of people are planning to stay in Canada this summer to enjoy 150th Celebrations or make the most of their vacation budget. It's the "family road trip" to destinations in B.C. or in other parts of Canada. The tip: Consider travel health in...surance if your trip will take you outside of your home province. Not all provinces cover medical expenses in the same way or for the same amount. Recently, a young relative was traveling in B.C. when he got into a minor collision. He wasn't badly injured but he was taken to hospital to be checked for a concussion and ended up with a couple of stitches. A few weeks later, he was surprised to receive a bill for $1500 from B.C. Health Services. He has basic Alberta Health care and thought it would take care of the visit and treatment. You may already have travel health insurance through your employee benefits. It's worth checking your plan to see if you and your family have travel insurance and the amount of coverage. If your coverage is limited to basic Alberta Health care, you may want to consider purchasing health insurance before you leave for your trip. Wishing you safe travels!
