Hello all! I wanted to take some time to make a post to introduce myself, and explain why my beadwork and artwork is so important to me. My name is Victoria Hill, and I am a mix between Cree, Métis, and Scottish. I am from a small town outside of Peterborough, Ontario where I was raised by my amazing dad who was Scottish. I have a wonderful husband, and 2 crazy cats. I have a small business where I do beadwork, make hypoallergenic jewellery, dreamcatchers, and lots more. ...I work a full-time job (54hrs per week) at a store where I sell lumber and building materials. I love my day job, but I spend every minute outside of my full-time job beading in my Art Room. Beading is my medicine that connects me to my ancestors. Every bead that I string on my needle chooses its path and where it will lay, every piece that I create chooses where it will end up. Growing up I was very disconnected from my native culture, as my mom left when I was a baby. I do everything in my power to learn all that I can about my background and my ancestors. I discovered beading in 2018, and I couldn't stop. In 2019 I took a journey to Saskatchewan to meet my biological mom and some of her family. I was able to meet my Kokum for the first time, who is Cree. Unfortunately my Grandpa passed away before I could meet him; he was Métis. On my trip I found out that my mom and Kokum also bead. Not only is beading something I love to do, but it is in my blood. One of my goals in life is to get my beadwork and jewellery on as many people as I can. I strive to spread my culture, reconnect with my roots, and spread my positive energy through each piece that I am able to create. I create all of my artwok with positive thoughts, and smudge it before sending it to it's forever home. Being able to bead is such a gift, and I cherish that.
