Friends and Relatives, we are not out of the woods yet, with COVID-19. Many people are experiencing "covid fatigue" and letting their guard down. In some cases depression, anxiety and stress related to the pandemic are having a very real and crippling effect. Please keep yourselves, and your families and relatives safe and healthy. Our people have survived so much. Wearing a mask, keeping our circles small, staying home, avoiding close distance with others, and washing our ha...nds: These are all things that make a difference in the spread of this terrible disease for this generation, and the ones to follow. Kids and Young People: If you are struggling and need to talk/text or message someone about how you're feeling, don't hesitate: https://kidshelpphone.ca/ Adults, Parents, Elders: You can contact someone at Hope for Wellness by phone or online chat: https://www.sac-isc.gc.ca/eng/1576089519527/1576089566478 For more information about mental health, check out this page: https://ca.portal.gs/

We believe that all Indigenous children deserve an education that honours, values and protects them and reflects the wisdom of their ancestors, including Indigenous languages and knowledge systems. We are working together to negotiate for a comprehensive model based on the effective implementation of Inherent and Treaty rights to education. "The issue of the demand for the recognition of education as a treaty right will not dissipate until profound educational changes occur: ...including appropriate funding and effective control beyond merely administrative responsibility for a poorly funded and externally directed education services. First Nations education must reflect the language, traditions, and culture of their communities and receive the resources necessary to ensure quality educational programming, and to ensure educational attainment and foster the crucial skills for governance and economic self-reliance" - Sheila Carr-Stewart See more

Claudine has been with the Treaty Education Alliance for 4 years, and brings a vibrant and positive personality in everything that she does. She's loved around the office for always having a smile on her face, and for providing exceptionally reliable support to all members of our organization and, by extension, the member First Nat...ions we serve. It was a beautiful day for a feast and pipe ceremony for our beautiful painted tipi. Thank you to everyone who joined us in prayer for the important work we do, and the important work each of the First Nations leadership, school staff and children do every day. Michael Lonechild reminded us of the importance of gratitude and the continued need to be safe and careful with ourselves and our relations.

Today is #OrangeShirtDay. Today, and every day, we honour residential school survivors by working purposefully to remove inequalities in Indigenous education. We wear orange as a vivid reminder of the struggles we have persevered through. We wear orange to honour every child who was torn away from their family. We wear orange in unity, as we continue to fight for Inherent and Treaty Rights to Education. Indigenous children and youth deserve to know who they are, and where they come from.
