Ron Amos is sharing an excellent propagation tour of Evergreen Nursery Company. The ideal climate allows for outstanding birch production. The river birch is grown from seed in June. The seedlings are germinated and then hand transplanted into a 38 cell.

Anyone that has walked or biked down the Kinsmen Trail has probably noticed these two mini tree nursery locations. This Thumbs Up North Bay award goes to Trees ...for Nipissing (trees4nipissing.org). This group of volunteers have been raising trees since 2004 for planting in public spaces in our community. I chatted with Board Member Peggy Walsh Craig about the group this week. Tree seedlings are purchased by the group and are planted and cared for at the starter nursery site at the end of 2nd Avenue East. Trees are either planted or transferred to the Hammond Street nursery site to continue growing to supply larger trees around our community. Trees really improve our community by beautifying our public spaces, creating shade and contributing to greenhouse gas reductions. Thanks to their efforts we have some beautiful trees in public spaces such as the Community Waterfront Park and Discovery North Bay Museum site. Definitely worthy of our appreciation, Thumbs Up to Trees for Nipissing! See more
