A Message from the Mayor I wish I had better news but if we all do our part now hopefully my next message will be a little better. The Municipal Office will be closed to the public until the 25th of January. Municipal staff will be available by email and phone. We are encouraging all other Mayors to promote the same advice as the story is very serious and we choose to lead by example. The office is closed between Christmas and New Years. Council meetings will be virtual as w...ell. Lets all do our part and keep as many people safe as possible. Unfortunately, many people think they will catch the virus, get over it, and march on. For many that isn’t the case. Lung scarring, heart conditions, clotting, loss of taste and smell, are long term devastating results for far too many people. I implore you to do your part, and I can assure you that we will also. Have a safe Holiday, and as I always say to my great grandchildren when we get together, Tell me one good thing that has happened to you this week. My sincerest best wishes for you and yours. Regards, Mayor Janet Clarkson

The New Ontario Small Business Support Grant The Ontario government continues to provide a variety of supports to employers facing challenges as a result of COVID-19. The government will now be providing even more support to small businesses that are required to close or severely restrict their operations due to the necessary Provincewide Shutdown. This will help ensure they can continue serving their communities and employing people once COVID-19 has been eradicated.... The government is announcing the new Ontario Small Business Support Grant, which will provide a minimum of $10,000 and up to $20,000 to help small business owners during this challenging period. Small businesses required to close or restrict services under the Provincewide Shutdown will be able to apply for this one-time grant. Each small business will be able to use the support in whatever way makes the most sense for their individual business. For example, some businesses will need support paying employee wages or rent, while others will need support maintaining their inventory. https://news.ontario.ca/en/backgrounder/59788/post-4

As COVID-19 cases continue to rise at an alarming rate, the Ontario government, in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health and other health experts, is imposing a Provincewide Shutdown. Additional restrictions will be put into place and reinforce that Ontarians should stay at home as much as possible to minimize transmission of the virus and prevent hospitals from becoming overwhelmed. The Provincewide Shutdown will go into effect as of Saturday, December 26, 2...020, at 12:01 a.m. The impacts of measures will be evaluated throughout the 28 days in Southern Ontario to determine if it is safe to lift any restrictions or if they need to be extended. Measures include, but are not limited to: Restricting indoor organized public events and social gatherings, except with members of the same household (the people you live with). Individuals who live alone may consider having exclusive close contact with one other household. Prohibiting in-person shopping in most retail settings curbside pickup and delivery can continue. Discount and big box retailers selling groceries will be limited to 25 per cent capacity for in-store shopping. Supermarkets, grocery stores and similar stores that primarily sell food, as well as pharmacies, will continue to operate at 50 per cent capacity for in-store shopping. Restricting indoor access to shopping malls - patrons may only go to a designated indoor pickup area (by appointment only), essential retail stores that are permitted to be open (e.g. pharmacy, grocery store), or, subject to physical distancing and face covering requirements, to the food court for takeout purchases. Shopping malls may also establish outdoor designated pickup areas. Prohibiting indoor and outdoor dining. Restaurants, bars and other food or drink establishments will be permitted to operate by take out, drive-through, and delivery only. On the advice of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, all Ontarians are advised to stay home as much as possible with trips outside the home limited to necessities such as food, medication, medical appointments, or supporting vulnerable community members. Employers in all industries should make every effort to allow employees to work from home. The Saturday Buckhorn Food Bank drive was a success! Citizens and volunteers filled the Buckhorn food bank pantry with approximately $1800 worth of food. Thank you to everyone who participated, the local volunteers that helped, MPP Dave Smith and owner Shriek Patel of Buckhorn Foodland for the venue. Municipality of Trent Lakes 20.10.2020

Good Morning, Everyone. It has come to my attention that I have offended some people by suggesting we light up the town from November 1, 2020. I in no way meant to slight Remembrance Day, as I am usually at the Buckhorn General Store selling poppies. This year has been a little different. My father was in the First World War, my brother was a sailor in the Second World War, and my daughter has done numerous benefits for wounded veterans. I have never associated lights wi...th Remembrance Day, but I won’t make this mistake again. Please accept my apologies. We have had such a trying 9 months that I jumped the gun in trying to bring a little light into our lives. On another note, I attended the unveiling of the commemorative plaque beside the balancing rock in Buckhorn, on the Selwyn Township side on Monday, and I encourage you to stop and take a look. The County of Peterborough, along with MPP Dave smith, will be at Foodland in Buckhorn from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday to do a food drive for hampers for Christmas. This is a project for the entire County so hopefully a lot of needed items will help to fill baskets and bring a little relief to those who need it! I hope to see you there, and again I apologize for my short sightedness. Mayor Janet Clarkson
