COUNTDOWN TO THE HOLIDAYS: STAFF EDITION Today we are back at it with another submission for our Countdown to the Holidays virtual album. Meet Susan Stoddard, the EarlyON/Child Care Site Supervisor/Home Childcare Coordinator, here at the Trenton MFRC. Below, Susan shares a special Christmas tradition! "At our house the Christmas tradition is to have a gathering with extended family on Boxing Day! It includes lots of food, wonderful desserts and a ... wrapped gift not exceeding $25. We gather after eating and the laughter begins! Everyone gets a card and the dealer starts drawing cards. When your card is called you can take a wrapped gift and unwrap it for everyone to admire, or you can steal a gift from someone who has already a gift, then they choose another gift. We play two rounds and you can steal or stay, but if someone wants your gift you have to give it up and go steal another one. This game initiates fun competition and lots of laughter!" -- Chez nous, la tradition de Noël consiste à organiser une réunion avec la famille élargie le lendemain de Noël ! Cela comprend beaucoup de nourriture, de merveilleux desserts et un cadeau emballé ne dépassant pas 25 $. Nous nous réunissons après avoir mangé et les rires commencent ! WREATH WORKSHOP We still have some openings for our second Christmas Wreath workshop. In the spirit of the Holidays, we are opening it to all our families; regular forces, reservists and veterans. COUNTDOWN TO THE HOLIDAYS: STAFF EDITION Today's post is brought to you by Natasha, our Welcome and Transition Coordinator! She has a family recipe to share and hopes you will love it as much as she does! "Everyone at our house LOVES ginger cookies all throughout the year, but especially during the holiday season. We usually gift baked goods to friends and family members, and these chewy ginger molasses cookies are always a hit! This recipe makes a lot of cookies (as yo...u can see), which makes them perfect for gifting. They also freeze very well, which means you can make them ahead of time and thaw as needed. See below for this amazing recipe!" - Natasha (Trenton MFRC Staff) RECIPE: 1.5 cups unsalted butter (softened to room temperature, not melted) 1 cup white sugar 1 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup fancy molasses 2 eggs 4.5 cups (639g) all-purpose flour 4 tsp baking soda 1 tbsp ground ginger 2 tsp ground cinnamon 1 tsp ground cloves 3/4 tsp salt 1. Whisk together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, ginger and salt. Set aside. 2. Using a hand mixer, cream together the butter and sugar (both types) until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, one at a time. Gradually add in the dry ingredients and beat until evenly incorporated. 3. Transfer dough to an airtight container and refrigerate for at least 2 hours. 4. Preheat oven to 350F. Line pan with parchment paper. 5. Roll the dough into small balls, about 1-inch in diameter. Roll each ball into white sugar until completely coated. Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheet. 6. Bake for 8-10 minutes, until the cookies begin to slightly crack on top. 7. Serve warm and enjoy!
