Today, September 8, 2020, is International Literacy Day. As Canadians we are fortunate to live in a country that values literacy. But more work needs to be done. To celebrate we are asking you to share what you have been reading, writing, or learning recently? I look forward to hearing from you. Following is something to think about on this International Literacy Day: According to an article titled "Covid-19: A wake-up call to invest in literacy" by Paul Stanistreet "So...me 773 million youth and adults globally lack basic levels of literacy and numeracy, two-thirds of them female. Most of these youth and adults face multiple disadvantages. They are often unable to acquire decent jobs, suffer from hunger and bad health, cannot make informed choices, and are excluded from social interaction and full participation in society." "At a time when we need to reinvent a world of hope, literacy is more important than ever. On this International Literacy Day, I thus invite all those involved in education to redouble their investments and mobilize all their resources to unleash the potential of each individual in the service of a shared world" Audrey Azoulay, UNESCO
