Triathlon Nova Scotia 19.01.2021

While we are entering another year of uncertainty for triathlon events in the Maritimes and around North America, that shouldn't stop us from training and challenging ourselves to achieve our goals. So....all Triathlon N.S., Triathlon N.B., and Triathlon PEI members are invited to join us for the 2021 Maritimes Triathlon Training Challenge! Our goal for 2021 is to train 6,346 km. in 2021 while completing 2 Training Challenges: 1) The Maritimes Bubble Challenge - to train the ...distance of the cycling route around the 3 Maritime Provinces (2,963 km.) starting on January 1. Our goal is to finish this Challenge by June 25 so we can charter a jet overnight to Brest, France in time to start our 2nd Challenge on June 26.... 2) The 2021 Tour de France Challenge - We will join the start of the Tour on June 26 and our challenge is to complete the entire 3,383 km. Tour de France route by December 31, 2021. Sound like fun? It will be! To complete both Challenges you will need to train 6,346 km. during the year (about 122 km/week). The goal for some will be to complete the Maritimes tour by the end of the year (57 km/week). AND....there's one added challenge for anyone who completes the Maritimes Bubble route by the end of April - we'll fly you virtually to Edinburgh, Scotland so you can swim, bike, and run 1,145 km. to join the rest of us at the start line of the Tour de France in Brest, France on June 26. If you accept this challenge, here's what you need to do: 1) Type I'm up for the Challenge! in the comments section of this post so we can add your name to the tracking spreadsheet, 2) Request to join the Triathlon Challenge Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/268441374135641. If you participated in the 2020 Cross-Canada Challenge you are already a member of the Group, but please confirm in the comments sections below that you want to participate in the 2021 Challenge. Here's how the Challenge worked in 2020: On January 1, 2020, over 60 Nova Scotia triathletes challenged themselves to swim, bike, and run the distance from Halifax to Victoria by the end of the year - a total of 6,164 km. 33 people successfully completed the journey by December 31. More importantly, this fun challenge kept us all motivated and engaged during what turned out to be a difficult year for all endurance athletes. Starting in Halifax and heading west, we set a goal destination to reach each month and the participants posted their total monthly distance at the end of each month so we could track everyone's progress.

Hey Winter Runners & Cyclists, Are you looking to supplement your winter training? Cross-country skiing is a low-impact, highly aerobic cardio activity. The sp...ort can be performed by athletes of all abilities and ages... for life. Consider Adding XC Skiing to Weekly Training: Highest VO2 max workout (according to studies) Full body muscle recruitment Low impact while increasing your aerobic + strength gains Targets - glutes, hamstrings + core Reduces injuries by recruiting adductors + small stabilizing muscles Boost aerobic capacity + mental fortitude by increasing your moving time (3 hours on skis lower impact than 3 hours running). Returning to a 2 hour run can feel easy after 3 hour skis. Add a run on top of a ski or vice versa. Reduces the physical toll of all time spent running. Challenge and inherent fun of leaning a new sport . NS XC Trails & Conditions https://bit.ly/2Zm8VSr New to Ski https://crosscountryns.ca/new-to-ski/ Ski Clubs | NS https://bit.ly/2U9ZZvL

Santa is disappointed; he trained all year for his first triathlon and, like the rest of us, he wasn’t able to race in 2020. But, he is continuing to train and has set some new training and racing goals for 2021. He says that, while the 2021 event calendar is still up in the air, his schedule is flexible and he can race any day in 2021 other than Dec. 24. Depending on how early the start time is, he might also have to rush to get to the start line in the morning of Dec. 25. ...While it’s difficult to know what the 2021 event season will look like, be like Santa and keep training. Happy Holidays!

Triathlon NS, Triathlon NB, and Triathlon PEI are starting virtual group rides on Zwift starting Saturday, November 21 at 09:00. Rides will be on Zwift using the Meet Up function. Ride basics: - Rides are coordinated using the Meet-Up function on Zwift.... - Keep Everyone Together option is selected. This means your fitness level will not determine if you can hang with the group. All you have to do is keep pedaling to stay with the group. - If we have more competitive rides, they will be advertised as such (distance, w/kg). - We’ll start with Saturday morning rides on Zwift, and add more ride options as the project grows. Getting on the ride: - Send a friend request to Jesse English [TriNB] on Zwift. When adding Jesse, please mention your provincial affiliation or add it to your Zwift name. - You’ll be invited to this, and all subsequent rides. - If you are late (up to 30 minutes), use Late Join to join the group leader. - We recommend you log on in plenty of time in case of connectivity issues. Can you spare a minute to give us some feedback? After a glorious summer of outdoor riding, many of us will be heading into our winter pain-caves soon, and it's easier to be motivated if there's someone to ride with. We'd like to set up some virtual group rides for triathletes in the Maritimes; not only will you get to ride with other people, you'll get a chance to connect with people across the region Please fill out the attached anonymous questionnaire to help us set up so...me virtual group rides for triathletes around the Maritimes this winter! https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/87SC3W5 See more
