#repost @araksyakarapetyan When I was a little girl in the early 90s during the first war I had a vision... perhaps it was more of a daydream. I imagined being hoisted down from a helicopter onto the battlefield where by God’s guidance I said all the right things that made the fighting stop. All I wanted as a child was peace. I imagine now what the children of Artsakh dream of... I have always been and continue to be on the side of humanity.... My heart breaks and aches for the children who will grow up fatherless... for the wives who are left as widows and single parents... for the parents who unimaginably had to bury their children. The grief is crushing. I am heartbroken to say that my family as well has lost loved ones. We will never be the same. May God bless the souls of all who have passed. Their memory will never be forgotten and we must strive to honor them. The unity we as a community formed in the past 44 days was and is remarkable. The way we mobilized, the way we created and united and encouraged one another was incredible. We are only stronger together. Not divided. Not apart. We are survivors because in the darkest of times in our history we have managed to find one another, to take each other’s hand and to walk together to march together all for one common purpose that is Hayastan. This is our moment. This is our time. This is our future. Let us continue to stand shoulder to shoulder. Let us honor those brave souls who gave their lives for their homeland. Let us equally and as determined stand for the generation that is watching us right now. How we carry ourselves in this moment in time will define us as human beings as proud Armenians and as survivors. May God protect, lead, and guide each of us, our leaders and our nation.

On January 13, at around 12:00, in a guard post of one of the military units located in the central direction of the Artsakh Defense Army, an Armenian serviceman received a gunshot wound due to a violation of the ceasefire by the enemy. The wounded soldier was Vardan Vachagan Kirakosyan, who was immediately taken to a mili...tary hospital, where he underwent successful surgery. His condition is assessed as stable and severe, informs the Artsakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Artsakh Defense Army. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Artsakh strongly condemns the provocative steps of the Azerbaijani side and qualifies them as an action aimed at destabilizing the situation in the Azerbaijan-Karabakh conflict zone and disrupting the peacekeeping efforts. This kind of dangerous behavior is unacceptable and is a gross violation of the trilateral statement of the leaders of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan of November 9, 2020 on a complete cease-fire and cessation of all military operations in the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict zone. We call on Azerbaijan to strictly follow the commitments taken under the trilateral statement and refrain from provocative actions that could undermine the current truce. An investigation is underway to find out the details of the case.

Another day and another outrageous outcome from illegal Turkish military aggression, this time against the Republic of Artsakh. As a conflict analyst, I am amaz...ed at the ways that Turkey can continually carry out international war crimes and not face any consequences. In this latest scandalous act of aggression, Armenia was abandoned by the rest of the world, and compelled to sign a so-called ‘peace deal’ with Turkey’s puppet state Azerbaijan (it’s actually more of an occupation agreement), which effectively gives them of Artsakh’s territory. But what this agreement also does is embolden Turkey’s dictator Erdoan for flying in Syrian jihadist mercenaries to behead captured Artsakhi soldiers, and reward Azerbaijan’s dictator Aliyev for employing waves of Turkish killer drones to rain down death on everything that moved. Azerbaijan, the side that: used white phosphorus bombs on civilians hiding in the forests, dropped cluster bombs on residential areas, burned down villages (Aknaghbyur), shelled the maternity wards of hospitals, attacked historic cathedrals with hiding women and children inside (Ghazanchetsots), and decapitated war prisoners before calling their families to taunt them about it; is despicably allowed to ‘win’ new territory as a result. Of course, as many Kurds will recognize, all of these atrocities are exactly the kind of actions that Turkey has carried out in Rojava (northern Syria) in the last few years with their ISIS proxies, following their invasions and occupations of cities like Afrin. And what it shows a tyrant like Erdoan is that there will be no penalties for such actions. Just as he has been allowed to bomb and build bases in Southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq), threaten to steal Greek islands in the Aegean Sea, flood Libya with terrorists to prop up his chosen warlord, destabilize Egypt with his Muslim Brotherhood militias, threaten France with more church beheadings over cartoons, and expand on Turkey’s occupation of northern Cyprus that goes all the way back to 1974. Now, as a result of this latest barbarism, Turkey is rewarded with the ability to drive directly from their capital city of Ankara to Azerbaijan’s capital of Baku, as Armenia had to agree to give future permanent road access to these enemies through their own country in order to halt the invasion. But, like with Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan, militaristic fascism always expands exponentially until it is stopped, and Erdoan views himself as a neo-Ottoman Sultan who is justified in attacking wherever he chooses, in order to reclaim the former Empire’s glory. And infuriatingly, it appears that Artsakh is the latest victim in his long line of cruel conquest. A tiny heroic mountain enclave with three millennia of Armenian roots reaching into the ground, has now been uprooted and torn away by invaders as the world barely notices.
