The ordination and consecration of the Reverend Sandra Fyfe took place at the Cathedral Church of All Saint on the Feast of St Andrew (Nov 30, 2020). It was an... unusual service during the pandemic - only 5 people allowed for the core service. And everyone wore a mask and kept 6 feet apart from each other. A few members of the choir and the choirmaster were present but far away from the transept area where the service took place. Readers for the lessons were brought in from the Great Hall just long enough to do their readings. And two videographers were in distanced from the transept but still recorded the live elements of the service and blended them with pre-recorded messages, a sermon and a musical performance. At the conclusion of the service, all bishops stood on the steps of the high altar for a group photo - and they were careful to stay 6 feet apart while they briefly unmasked for the photo. See more

Hymn: O Come, Divine Messiah https://youtu.be/bRGFL0JclpE

Trinity Anglican Church, Digby, NS 07.11.2020

Reflection for 2nd Sunday of Advent The scriptures for this week are Isaiah 40:1-11 and Mark 1:1-8. You can read them by following this link: http://bible.oremus.org/?ql=474262122 In the beginning, there was God... In time, there came horror and humiliation, fear and frustration, greed and loss... In exile and isolation came a word of hope ... of comfort ‘speak tenderly; prepare the way; carry the little ones; shout the glad news of rescue’ In time again, there came fear of being left behind, of being forgotten, of promises broken: Would the Messiah the rescuer ever come? Would Jesus who promised to come again to collect the faithful and set all the wrongs of history right ever return to do that? In that impatient, anxious waiting came an emerging understanding: God’s time is not like our time. It is an always-was, always-is and always-will-be time, like another dimension that occasionally intersects our linear time in ways that always surprise us. Jesus was one such intersection God-in-flesh, walking and touching and talking and eating and healing individuals and humanity in ways that we still do not understand completely. The beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ was a voice of preparation: Shed the structures and systems that prop you up; allow yourself to be vulnerable Acknowledge your need, your fear, your brokenness, your sins ... Come and know that there is forgiveness for wrongs, healing for brokenness, courage for fear, strength for living This voice spoke words of hope and comfort to people afraid and isolated. That was John leading us to Jesus, and recognize that those were amazing, astonishing times of God intersecting with human history. This past year has had the potential to be such a year for us, forcing us away from our busyness and the structures that have made us feel comfortable, but which have not always helped us become our best selves. In this Advent the voice of preparation still calls us to and adventure in the wilderness of openness and vulnerability; to be the ones who become beacons of light and hope in our world. What will your Advent adventure be this week? The beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ begins with a crazy man in the desert this should be interesting.

Prayers for this Week God of hope, you raised up John the baptizer as a herald who calls us to be transformed. As we joyfully await the glorious coming of Christ, we pray to you for the needs of the church and the world. We think of our plans for this day and for this week; some of which we anticipate with joy, some of which we hope to simply survive. Let us ask the Lord for a day and a week of fulfilment and peace. Lord, hear our prayer.... We think of our relationships with our neighbours and friends; our coworkers and members of our families; those who need our help and those who offer us help; those who delight us and those who irritate us. Let us ask the Lord to teach us to love others as he has loved us. Lord, hear our prayer. We think of our world with all that amazes us and all that troubles us. Let us ask the Lord for peace and justice in the world. Lord, hear our prayer. Let us ask the Lord to strengthen and relieve those who are in need, especially remembering Lord, hear our prayer. We remember the church and those who have leadership responsibilities within it during these times of change and restriction, especially remembering Bishop Sandra. Let us ask the Lord to renew the Church through the power the holy and life-giving Spirit. Lord, hear our prayer. Hear our humble prayer that we may serve you in holiness and faith and give voice to your presence among us until the day of the coming of your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen.

Reflections for August 23rd, 2020 12th Sunday after Pentecost from Licensed Lay Minister Laura Robicheau.... Jesus is the Christ, the son of the living God. Matthew 16:16. Readings for the day: Exodus 1: 8-2:10. Psalm 124. Romans 12: 1-8. Matthew 16: 13-20. Hymn : Jesus, Name above All Names. https://www.bing.com/videos/search May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable to you, my Lord and my Redeemer. Amen Matthew 16: 13-20 Peter’s Confession. Jesus asked the disciples who the people say that I, the Son of Man, am? They said, John the Baptist, Elijah, Jeremiah or one of the prophets. He then said, But, who do you say that I am? And Simon Peter answered, You are the Messiah, the Christ, the son of the living God. And Jesus answered, Blessed are you, for flesh and blood have not revealed it to you but my Father in heaven. He said, You are Peter and upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it. And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven and what shall be bound on earth will be bound in heaven. And what you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Then he said to his disciples that they should not tell anyone that he was Jesus the Christ. Who do you say that I am? He is our Saviour, our brother, our redeemer, our friend, our peace, our life, our teacher, our strength, our song, Emmanuel, God in us, our Lord, the living word. Who we say Jesus is has everything to do with who and how we are and will be. It reveals how we live, what we stand for, guides our decisions and determines the actions we take and the words we speak. It discloses the depth of our motivation for and commitment to him. Jesus’s question isn’t so much about getting the right answer as about witnessing and testifying to God’s life, love and presence in our lives and the world. It is about our heart, grounded in love more than understanding. We are always living into the question. We grow in our relationship with him. We discover more about ourselves. It is not a question to figure out but to be lived out. The revelation that opened Peter’s eyes to see and his tongue proclaim that Jesus is the Christ, the son of the living God, was revealed by God. On this rock we stand against the gates of hell and all the evil in this world. The Church will stand, a rock. We are as Peter has said, living stones that are fitted together around the living cornerstone. We bind ourselves to Him. Peter and the church will open the door of faith to the world and we must keep that door open and bring the church to our world. Showing Jesus in our lives, our faith and our service as we reach out. Who do you say that I am?
