The absolutely epic 'grae' that came out this year is the tour de force of an artist confronting the wholeness of self by accounting for the minutiae of his oeuvre. Seriously, he exercises control of every aspect of his work - something that is relatively rare in the music industry - to compose, perform, art direct... And all that with complex and nuanced commentary on the damaging nature of binaries, and a falsetto that will make any feeling person weak in the knees. As many members of the community choose to wear masks for theirs and others safety, we’ve noticed a huge increase in mask related trauma to face and ear piercing! Here’s a few tips from our piercing team to help you keep your body’s adornments in top health! 1. Wear a proper fitted mask. If your mask is too tight, it may put extra pressure on your ears, nose or mouth, those pushing on your piercings. This is especially harmful in new healing piercings, as the jewelry is larg...er to accommodate initial swelling and cleaning. If these longer bars are consistently pushed or slept on, they can heal on an angle and result in further issues down the road such as irritation bumps! On the other hand, a mask that is too loose can move and snag on jewelry, pulling it in harmful directions. 2. Keep your mask CLEAN! Our masks are on our faces, meaning they are exposed to the bacteria on our skin and in our noses and mouths. Saliva, mucous, sweat, and make up will build up over time - all of which are nor helpful when trying to maintain a clean, happy body piercing. 3. Watch your straps! Mask straps behind the ears can easily catch or begin tangled in ear piercings. Piercings such as conches, industrials, and helixes are especially at risk! Be mindful when putting on and removing your masks.

Yes, my rockers, we have also seriously beefed up our selection of metal, punk and rock of all denominations - and among them, you will find Polaris nominees Whoop-Szo's "Warrior Down". With hints of heavy fuzz, earnest ballads and straight up rock, it's a bit difficult to cleanly categorize this album, aside from saying that this is one that you want to listen to closely and the whole way through. Fronted by Anishinaabe Canadian Adam Sturgeon, Whoop-Szo's album moves seamlessly between family storytelling and confrontations with Canadian history and systemic injustices. Originally from Victoria, Ryan was an artist from an early age and began a tattoo apprenticeship at Brian's Tattoo Studio in Abbotsford BC back in 2003. He worked in Abbotsford for 5 years before setting out to do guest spots around the world starting in Peru and Columbia before heading to Europe. He tattooed extensively i...n Germany, Spain and the UK before settling back on the island where he has been since 2014. Listening to Aziza Brahim's "Sahari" was a bit of a surprise - bluesy guitar, and electronics drifting through the tracks are most definitely not what I expected. But her more global approach to sharing the traditional sounds of her Saharawi heritage works seamlessly, and underscores her message about the liminal status of her people, who have lived as refugees for generations. She herself recorded this album living in exile in Spain, having moved between refugee camps in Algeria, and to Cuba to study music in her youth. You like desert grooves?
