The lighthouse in Twillingate, NL (aka Long Point light), built in 1876, is a breathtaking example of brick construction (later reinforced with concrete). The lantern features two rows of triangular glass panes, a very rare feature in Canadian lighthouses. Rose Blanche lighthouse, originally built in 1871, has been lovingly restored by the community. It is the only restored granite lighthouse in Atlantic Canada, and the first lighthouse in Newfoundland to be designated as a heritage structure. http://www.roseblanchelighthouse.ca Town of Rose Blanche-Harbour Le Cou / Diamond Cove Newfoundland & Labrador Tourism Government of Newfoundland and Labrador Newfoundland In Pictures Troy Harnish Dronography

Lobster Cove Head lighthouse is one of my favourite lighthouses for its looks, but it is hard to get a feel for the area with one picture... so here is a 360 pano. You can move the picture and rotate 360 degree. (FYI- this drone flight WAS done legally... drones are generally banned from within Gros Morne Park). On Sept. 8 & 9th, 2020, the Bluenose II visited Canso, Nova Scotia, and I managed to record the occasion. Watching her come and go under full sail is something every Canadian should see at least once in their life. Given that Canso NS is the home of Stan Rogers Folk Festival, it seems fitting to have Stan Rogers voice accompany the Bluenose II into & out of the harbour. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZjzHYRha8s&feature=youtu.be

West Point Light as sun sets. This lighthouse is in the top 11 most attractive, and it has an inn attached, for those who would like to enjoy the area in leisure. The beach is superb, and the nearby Provincial Park is an amazing place to spend a few days by the ocean (speaking from experience). Cape Egmont light (aka Cap Egmont) is the only light between Seacow Head and West Point, PEI. Built in 1884, it once featured an attached keepers residence, which was removed in 1958. The lighthouse was moved further inland in 2000, due to shoreline erosion. Prince Edward Island Cape Egmont Lighthouse Prince Edward Island Tourism #ExplorePEI #Staycation Troy Harnish Dronography

Canso was a surprise; While the village is dwindling in population, the beauty is endless. Being the stomping grounds for the likes of Stan Rogers certainly adds to the appeal, which is likely the reason why this is the centre of the Universe for Stan Rogers groupies. Did I mention this is the most easterly point of mainland North America? More photos of this area to come, but I thought I would give everyone a preview of the area with a 360 degree pano. Cape George Light (also known as the North Canso light), outside of Antigonish, Nova Scotia, stands vigil over a high headland overlooking PEI and Cape Breton. Early keepers faced horrendous conditions to maintain the light in storms, but persevered. The light has been transferred to the community, and the area serves as a trailhead for local hiking trails. When I visited the Miramichi as a kid in the summer, I remember boats just like this being used along the river. This is going to be a longer post, but if you believe in the supernatural or are interested in New Brunswick history, it will likely be worth it; I am going to tell a story of this area, then fill in our connection to it today... This is the lighthouse in Escuminac, NB; It is unique in NB as an example of an "Apple core" lighthouse. There are only two others in North America, one at Cape Forchu, Nova Scotia, the other in Nanaimo, BC. This lighthouse is largely unknown, excep...t for local fishermen who rely on it, but that is not what makes this site special... In June of 1959, 61 years ago today, 44 boats set out from Escuminac harbour to fish salmon, when the remnants of a rapidly approaching Tropical Storm strangely looped into the Gulf of St. Lawrence, and struck the fishing fleet with no warning. Twenty-two fishing boats were sunk, and 35 men and boys drowned, leaving behind twenty-six widows and eighty-three fatherless children, devastating local communities. The Escuminac disaster was the worst workplace accident in NB history, but many outside of the Baie Sainte Anne area do not know of it. This week-end (June 13, 2020), Bonnie and I arrived at the lighthouse too late in the evening to photograph it, so we stayed the night beside it in our RV, and captured this photo in the early morning. It was the first time using the drone this trip, as the drone refused to work in Miramichi earlier in the trip. After the shoot, we decided to change our plans and go to Miscou Island, as it just felt right to us. When I sat down at home to process the images, things got weird... I normally work from bottom to top of the picture folder for odd workflow reasons, and this session was no exception. Oddly, I found a video that looked off, and the pictures were not at all what I was expecting. It took me a few minutes to realize, but all the photos from a shoot that I did a year earlier (less than 24 hours difference year-to-year) were in the same folder as the new photos. Same lighthouses, photographed in the same sequence, on the same memory card, using the same drone. Apart from the staggering odds of this happening, I almost always format my memory cards between shoots, the likelihood of having ANYTHING on the card, let alone the same subjects (I only ever visited either of these sites twice total), on nearly the same day one year apart, with the same SD card (out of a possible 40 different cards), using the same drone (out of a possible 8 drones), are just incalculable. There are a TON of other similarities, and we felt we were a part of something very special and unique. I think the disaster of Escuminac was meant to be remembered... it happened on this day, in 1959.
