Please be careful, these scammers are getting bold. CRA will never send someone to collect from you at your home. EVER! If you are ever in doubt please call the CRA to confirm 1-800-959-8281. That number is the general personal income tax inquiry line.

Just an FYI, if youd like to have your personal income taxes done by Capital Accounting this year we would like to remind you that all paperwork must be in to us by April 15th to ensure we make the April 30th filing deadline set forth by the CRA. Capital Accounting takes care to ensure your taxes are filed properly.

Its personal tax season and a lot of you will be getting money back, do not fall for this scam!! The government will send you a cheque or do direct deposit (only if youve set up direct deposit). Ever in doubt, call canada revenue directly and they can let you know if its them or not.

Income Tax Tip Tuesday. Dont assume that you dont need to bother filing a tax return because you have no income. Some low- or zero-income earners still think theres no need to file a return. This misunderstanding can cost thousands of dollars in lost benefits and credits like the GST/HST credit and the Canada Child Tax Benefit. More and more benefits are being distributed through the tax system these days. So, if no return is filed, no benefits get sent.... For some benefits, like the Guaranteed Income Supplement and the Working Income Tax Benefit, recipients need to apply every year. Provinces also offer sales tax credits and property tax credits for low income earners. But again no tax return, no credit. Teenagers who earn a few thousand dollars should also consider filing. That creates RRSP room that can be carried forward indefinitely to use at a time when they will owe tax once the reach the age of 18.
