The Halton Coalition for the Prevention of Hate crime (HC4PHC) is a collaboration of stakeholders with a mission to eradicate hate crimes in Halton Region. Wednesday November 18th, 2020 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, HC4PHC was called to action when the Halton Hills Community was victimized by an unknown individual who hung a noose from a tree near a park around Ethel Gardiner Public School, in Georgetown South. As you can imagine, Black, Brown, and marginalized community members w...ho are also labelled as "Others" are feeling fear, trauma, and a lack of safety. HC4PHC met with Bonita Uzoruo of the Halton Hills Alliance for Social Change and, together, they determined what immediate action was required to support the community. As such, the following events were planned: Healing Circle: Wednesday November 18th, 2020 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. Town Hall on Hate Crime and Racism: Tuesday November 24th, 2020 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm For HC4PH, Safety and creating Safe Space is of the utmost importance. Because the impact and prevalence of trauma is greatly misunderstood, particularly within the Black & Brown community, there are many adults living in a constant state of shame and confusion. Shame over not understanding their (adaptive) behavior and confusion over the intensity of their emotional response to life circumstances. Many adults also struggle with feeling stuck or compelled to repeat patterns of behaviour that no longer serve them well but have roots of familiar...ity in childhood. Unfortunately, because people remain unaware of these roots of Trauma, they often struggle with imposter syndrome and low self-esteem, even if successful at many things. UNDERSTANDING & EXPOSING ROOTS OF TRAUMA was designed to address these issues and empower people to live fully in their authentic selves.
