Until today I hadn’t been to a dentist.......that wasn’t my dad. My dad opened a practice in Corner Brook, NL in 1981, and then practiced in Truro until his retirement at the young age of 77. His practice was such a part of our lives - my mom was the hygienist and I remember when the trident gum went from ten to fifteen cents He looked after my teeth for my whole life, and my kids’ for as long as he could. Now I get to visit one of my besties, Dr. Carol, at @alliancedentalcentre, and my dad thinks that’s pretty great too #idonthaveagoodhashtag
Taking a picture of the moon at night is darn near impossible, so I’m pretty proud of this photo of #downtowntruro pre-snow. Those gorgeous nighttime clouds helped #nofilter #trurosbestplaces #thisisTRUlove #locallovetruro @locallovetruro @downtowntruro #trurobuzz @trurobuzz

Presently owned by Beau and Laura Blois, the striking Round Barn, was historically known as the Yuill Barn, despite having been built by Samuel James Kent and not conveyed to the Yuill family until some 34 years later. Kent (who went by Jimmy), constructed the barn in 1897 after becoming somewhat infatuated with the shape of an octagonal barn through his travels (swipe to see Truro Daily News article from June 1897 announcing its construction). Kent was also likely influenc...ed by the writings of Orson Squire Fowler, a nineteenth century phrenologist (phrenology being a pseudoscience which involves the measurement of bumps on the skull to predict mental traits) and social activist who believed that buildings of a round shape would contribute to the owner’s mental and emotional well-being. Originally the cattle stalls were on the main floor, along the perimeter of the building and the centre housed scaffolding which served as a hay mow. At one point there was a windmill, located on top of the lantern, which was used to pump water for the farm and which was removed many years ago. Currently the barn is used for concerts and other events, and is integral to the Round Barn Farm, which houses grass-fed black Angus Beef Cattle. Completely refurbished over a period of six years by its current owners, rotting floorboards have now been replaced by wide-plank hemlock, and rusted metal siding has been upgraded to wooden board and batten. Blois also replaced the old cupola with a new one. The round barn is included in Nova Scotia’s heritage designation as one of the two remaining octagonal barns built before 1914 left in Nova Scotia, and the only one remaining on its original setting/foundation. #trurosbestplaces #colchesterns #placesandfacestruro #hubhomestories #trytruro #trurobuzz #downtowntruro #trurorealestate #thisisTRUlove #locallovetruro #visitns See more

Thanks @canadianbarassociation Nova Scotia Branch for the CLE session on indigenous fishing rights and moderate livelihood. I don’t miss the exams, but I sure do miss the law school information and I will always appreciate being reminded of the importance of the fundamental values our nation was built upon. #neverstoplearning #legaleducation #indigenousrightsarehumanrights
Beautiful #egyptfallscapebreton finishes off the trip after a delicious lunch at #laughinggoatcafe
#skylinetrail to #chéticamp like you would.
A misty, rainbow-y morning travel from Dingwall to Bay St. Lawrence. Reminds me so much of Southwestern Newfoundland #explrens
Jigging Cove Lake Hike in Cape Breton Highlands National Park is a great family hike that takes about 45 mins, looping around a lake with boardwalks and beautiful foliage. Evidence of moose, but none seen today @hikenovascotia @hikethehighlands
Today we left #baddeck and drove north along the #cabottrail. The foliage was breathtaking and the photos can’t do it justice. Ingonish was lovely, Mary Ann Falls superb, White Point spectacular, and we ended up at.....DINGWALL! #tenpointsforme #whereweare
Ten extra points for anyone who can identify which northern CB beach the #trurotravelmug (currently filled with @bigsprucebrew cereal killer) is! #whatarethesepoints #whoscounting #wherearewe
If you find yourself lucky enough to be in #ingonish stop into the @periwinklecafe for a delicious lunch or coffee and some beautiful local art. #supportlocalartists
A spectacular day for a drive.

Here’s your next hint, my duckies! #trurotravelmug #wherearewe
