RE: IN-PERSON LEARNING RESUMES MONDAY, JANUARY 11, 2021 SCREEN FOR COVID-19 AS PART OF YOUR MORNING ROUTINE Dear Parents/Guardians:... As directed by the Ministry of Education, in-person learning will resume at all Rainbow Schools on Monday, January 11, 2021. Transportation will also resume. Please continue to follow the health and safety protocols in place to keep everyone safe wearing masks, washing hands, physical distancing and maintaining cohorts. Parents/guardians are reminded to screen their children daily for any COVID-19 symptoms. Students must stay home from school if they are sick, have had close contact with anyone diagnosed with COVID-19, have been advised by a doctor, health care provider or Public Health to self-isolate, and/or have travelled outside of Canada in the last 14 days. Secondary students can self-screen and monitor for symptoms. The COVID-19 screening tool can be accessed at rainbowschools.ca at the following link: https://www.rainbowschools.ca/pa/covid-19/covid-19-updates/ Students with symptoms are encouraged to get tested. Students who test negative for COVID-19 can return to school if they do not have a fever (without using medication) and it has been at least 24 hours since their symptoms started improving (if they had symptoms), 48 hours after the last episode of vomiting/diarrhea. Students who test positive for COVID-19, or are a close contact of someone with COVID-19 as determined by Public Health, can return to school only when they are cleared by Public Health Sudbury & Districts to do so. "New School Protocols While transmission in schools remains low, all publicly funded and private elementary and secondary schools are to move to teacher-led remote learning when students return from the winter break on January 4, 2021. This action is being taken in support of the Government's broader efforts to limit the spread of COVID-19. Schools located in the following Public Health Unit regions can resume in-person instruction on January 11, 2021 for both elementary and ...secondary students: The District of Algoma Health Unit North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit Northwestern Health Unit Porcupine Health Unit Sudbury and District Health Unit Thunder Bay District Health Unit Timiskaming Health Unit For schools in all other Public Health Unit regions, elementary school students are planned to be able to return to in-person learning on January 11, 2021, and secondary school students will continue learning remotely until January 25, 2021, at which point they may resume in-person learning. During this period, child care centres, authorized recreational and skill building programs and home-based child care services will remain open. From January 4-8, 2021, when elementary students move to remote learning, before and after school programs will be closed and emergency child care for health care and frontline workers will be provided. As part of the government's efforts to protect the most vulnerable, boards will be required to make provisions for continued in-person support for students with special education needs who cannot be accommodated through remote learning for whom remote learning is challenging. COVID-19 Advisory: Third Confirmed Case at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School Total Confirmed Cases Student 3 Confirmed Case Staff 0... As a result of this third case, an outbreak has been declared at the school. However, Public Health has indicated that there is no evidence of widespread transmission at the school at this time. For this reason, Lo-Ellen Park remains open for in person learning.
