Hey Friends and Family! <3 This is not immediately TRYvegan related and also Guelph specific. We are supposed to develop the Clair-Maltby moraine in Guelph. It is home to 7 endangered bird species, has 300 indentations that filter some of our drinking water, has ponds with fish in it, salamanders, frogs, dragonflies, turtles... ... The municipal government claims that we have to build houses in it, because the provincial government legislates us to. Meanwhile, that same government is about to pass a bill that, if passed, wil protect the larger moraine (Paris-Galt) that ours is part of. It doesn't protect it from development though, which maybe means that Mike Schriner did not go far enough. The federal government offers money to buy back (from private owners) ecologically sensitive lands. Guelph tax payers and property non-owners could also have the option of buying these lands from the developers and conserving them if they chose to? Could we brainstorm on what we can do, to make our voices more heard at City Hall?
