Fiela Se Kind takes place in Southern Africa, 1865. A mixed-race woman living in the arid Karoo takes in a lost white child and raises him as her own. Nine years later, the boy is removed and forced to live in the Knysna Forest with a family of woodcutters who claim that he is theirs. Separated by law and geography, Fiela and Benjamin spend a decade trying to find each other while simultaneously coming to terms with their individual identities. #fielasekind #fielasekindfilm #southafricantalent #southafricanfilm #brettmichaelinnes @nostalgiaproductions #daniebester

Another film announcement, with 3 weeks to go!! Tickets go on sale soon. Ten-year-old Thembi and her eight-year-old brother, Khwezi, are left alone in their rural homestead in KwaZulu-Natal after their mother dies. All they have to remember her by is a grass mat she wove, which she planned to enter in a craft competition in the city. Thembi and Khwezi head to Durban on their own to find the craft show, but once there fall into the life of the street with all of its dangers ...and challenges. The very essence of Thembi and Kwezi’s relationship is threatened as the city closes in to overwhelm and defeat them. Still, by the film’s hopeful closing, the children find a way to survive and even to triumph. Izulu Lami‘s greatest achievement is its cast of extraordinary child actors discovered in the townships, informal settlements and rural areas of KwaZulu-Natal. #izululami #southafricantalent #madodancayiyana #juliefrederikse #sobahlemkhabase #tsaff #vsaff #southafricansintoronto #kwa-zulunatal #awardwinningfilm

4 weeks to go!!!! Tickets go on sale soon!!! Announcing another film - Sides Of A Horn is the first film to tell the story of Africa’s poaching war from both sides of the fence. Based on actual events, and filmed in the townships and game reserves most directly impacted by wildlife crime, this dramatic short film (only 17 minutes) paints a balanced portrait of a modern battle that is tearing communities apart and driving the rhino to the edge of extinction. #tobywosskow #emmanuelcastis @tobywosskow @emmanuel_castis #southafricansintoronto #southafricantalent #southafricanfilmfestival #southafricanfilm #shortfilm #sidesofhorn #film #tsaff #vsaff

Announcing our film line up!!! Back Of The Moon plays out in a single night in 1958. It’s a tale of gangsters fighting for every advantage for every drop of power and dignity in the midst of squalor while not quite hidden in the background the vicious policies of the apartheid state draw ever closer. Badman, leader of a powerful and ruthless gang, lives life on his own terms in the crazy, cosmopolitan, half demolished ghetto that is Sophiatown. Tomorrow, legions of pol...ice will force the residents of Gerty Street out of their homes and truck them to a desolate township mile from the city. The immensely talented Eve Msomi, a torch-singer on the brink of an international career, is giving her last concert in the local hall The Back Of The Moon before she leaves for London. Eve and Badman find each other in what can only be a tragic and short-lived embrace. Badman has decided that he will fight to the death for his home. And on the night of this beautiful and authentic encounter, Badman’s gang senses his vulnerability and turns on them both. #backofthemoon #tsaff #filmfestival #sopiatown #southafricansintoronto #southafricansgottalent #southafricanmovie

Life is Wonderful will pay tribute to the hereos who make new South Africa possible. Ten people including Nelson Mandela were convicted at the Rivonia trial (named after the location of the farm where most of them were arrested) and went to jail for decades. Life is Wonderful features the three Rivonia defendants: Dennis Goldberg, Andrew Mlangeni and Ahmed Kathrada and the legendary defence team Joel Joffe and George Bizos (all who have since passed away). Mlangeni, Kathr...ada and Goldberg remember and reminisce in remarkable detail about their legal strategy, their personal roles in the struggle, and their amazing comrades. They were ordinary people willing to risk everything, writer and director UK retired High Court Judge Sir Nick Stadlen says of the Rivonia defendants and their lawyers. Big shout out to our SAFFPresenting Sponsor as well as our film sponsors, Hospital Employees Union & ZLC Financial. #lifeiswonderful #nelsonmandela #southafricanfilmfestival
