Great opening today for the Comox Rotary -Dawn to Dawn partnership in providing container housing for our most vulnerable. Thrilled to see the first home named ...for Tom Grant. Tom was the founder of Dawn to Dawn Action on Homelessness Society . Over 6 years ago when I started working outreach for D2D I could call Tom whenever their was a ‘situation’. He’d usually respond with I’ll see what I can do Followed with I know someone ... and more times than not problem solved . Way to go Brother Rogue :) He is one of the reasons I am proud to work for this organization along with the leadership of Richard Clarke and an awesome board . Also would like to give a shout out to Jin and Dali Lin . I look forward to working with you on this project. And once again thanks to Charlene Davis for her vision , Patrick Davis and all the volunteers . Keep it coming ! See more

Tool Kit for Affordable and Obtainable Housing in Courtenay There is broad consensus among all the candidates that a key issue facing Courtenay is affordable an...d obtainable housing - 45% of renter households in the Comox Valley spend more than 30% of their income on housing. In my business career I have invested in and provided governance for purpose-built rental buildings. The mayor and council can have a huge impact on the supply of new housing and the type of housing that is built including affordable housing. Unless the city is getting a pot of money from BC Housing it needs to create the conditions to encourage developers to invest in multi-family housing while negotiating the best deal for the community (i.e. a % of units dedicated as non-market rent affordable housing). Developers/investors need to earn a reasonable return and the city and the community need to see a benefit for their contribution. Courtenay’s tool kit to increase housing supply and affordable housing includes the following: 1. Partner with developers, housing societies, community organizations that own land (churches, legions etc.); 2. Explore contributing or leasing city owned land for projects in the best interests of the community; 3. Amend by-laws or zoning to offer bonus density (i.e. additional floors) for affordable rental units; 4. Streamline the development permitting process to speed up the process (to reduce the time and carrying costs for developers) 5. Reduce municipal fees and development charges for projects in the best interests of the community. If elected MP for Courtenay-Alberni I will work closely with whoever is elected in the city of Courtenay to help deliver the federal government and advocate on behalf of every resident of the Comox Valley.
