Follow up to yesterday’s post about no physical assists in TCTSY. The point of removing physical assists from the process is not to take something away, it’s no...t negativistic in that sense. It is, instead, to create space for a couple of other things that are not fully available if physical assists are happening: being able to focus attention on the sensation as it’s arising in your body just as it is and the practice of agency, that is, being fully in charge of the choices that you’re making for yourself as you encounter options in the yoga forms. By not doing physical assists we can transform a yoga class from a place that is training people to respond to the teacher to a place where people can practice being responsive to themselves. Yoga offers us a practice to stay connected to our bodies, helping us feel more comfortable with ourselves. Trauma Center-Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TC-TSY) may provide added benefits to a treatment program for complex trauma, with a basis in neuroscience research, trauma theory and attachment theory. The class is offered in a way that students are in control of what they do with their bodies at all times. Physical assists are not used in this class. Tuesdays @ 10:30 - 11:30 am... 6 weeks starting April 30th with Dani Kluane $90 + tax *For anyone who self-identifies as female *No experience necessary *Accessible regardless of physical ability Please note: The importance of having a safety network can not be underestimated. While it was previously a requirement that only people already in therapy engage in TC-TSY, this criteria has recently been modified to include individuals not in therapy, as we recognize the broader contexts of supports that may exist for some people. A pre-registration phone conversation with Dani is required to help you determine if this class is suitable for you. Dani is a certified Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga Facilitator. She can be reached at (867)334-3306 or [email protected] for intake. Facebook: TC Trauma Sensitive Yoga Yukon www.traumasensitiveyoga.com http://www.breathoflifestudio.com/registered-classes/

I am currently seeking therapists, organizations and individuals who are interested in learning more about TCTSY. TCTSY (Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga) is an adjunct treatment for complex trauma, developed at the Trauma Center in Brookline, Massachusetts. It has been the focus of several research studies (including a randomized controlled trial demonstrating a significant reduction in PTSD symptoms for the yoga group). It had been listed as an Evidence Based Practice ...by SAMHSA (until recently, when the US government pulled the EBP registry altogether). It’s theoretical underpinnings are rooted in Trauma Theory, Attachment Theory and Neuroscience. TCTSY emphasizes choice making, taking effective action, present moment experience and interoception (felt body experience). It can be a way for people to learn to experience what safety feels like in their body. It can give people who are suffering the effects of complex trauma some opportunities to make choices, in their bodies, in ways that are effective for them. TCTSY is delivered in a way that allows clients to be in the drivers seat, where they are given explicit permission to change, move, try something different, take a break or end the practice at any time. Individuals must be in therapy and need go through an intake process for TCTSY. It can be taught it both individual and group class format. Ideally, I would like to develop a relationship with the therapist and organization where I can share knowledge about TCTSY (theoretical underpinnings, research, protocols) and develop a plan to offer yoga sessions in a way that works best for the clients and organization. I completed the 300-hr TCTSY training through the Trauma Center in 2015. In addition I have a 200 hour Yoga Alliance certification and several years of yoga teaching experience. I have worked in environments with people with trauma backgrounds for several years, through my work at Alcohol and Drug Services Treatment Program as a Residential Attendant and at Family and Children Services Child and Youth Support Program as a Support Worker. I am not a therapist, just a yoga teacher. If you are interested in knowing more, or would like to set up a time for a presentation, you are welcome to contact me at (867)334-3306 or [email protected] For more information, you may also like to view the Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga website: www.traumasensitiveyoga.com

This week in particular we are acknowledging that the dynamics of complex, inter-relational trauma thrive on the paradigm of us and them; me and you; black and ...white; male and female; immigrant and "legitimate" citizen and on and on. When world leaders come along and intentionally exploit these dynamics we, as trauma experts, are required to acknowledge what we see. On the very intimate level, trauma is one person hoarding power and draining, manipulating, coercing, and abandoning the other - chronically and insidiously. These dynamics, though fundamentally intimate, play out on the grandest of scales as well from battlefields to halls of power everywhere. In this light we are both expressing our solidarity with anyone who is experiencing or has ever experienced chronic, insidious manipulation or abandonment and recognizing our responsibility as a community of providers to continuously question our own privilege and to constantly recommit ourselves to sharing power.
