RapidTO isn't living up to the name. "Initially proposed as a cheap and easy way to improve bus service during the pandemic, RapidTO bus lanes and other transit priority measures appear to have stalled..." Transit priority needs to be done right, too. The TTC must keep local bus stops along bus-only lanes and increase service. Removing local stops is a safety issue. ... The Toronto Star covers our campaign to keep local bus stops on the Eglinton East bus lanes corridor! You can support by joining our phone action this Wednesday evening: Make phone calls to Save our Stops + the Fair Pass "Advocacy group TTCriders says the stop removals violate the TTC’s service guidelines, which indicate stops on local bus route routes should be no more than 400 metres apart." Some apartment buildings have lost their local stops, and one set of stops is now s...paced 950 metres apart! Our member Beulah Esuk told the Star that taking away local stops will mean more wait times, more delays, or going late to your appointments or arriving late at home." She said she supports the bus-lane plan but we’re not willing to sacrifice the local stops. https://www.thestar.com//eglinton-rapid-bus-plan-comes-at-

"Where's my stop?" Read Ketheesakumaran Navaratnam's opinion column in the Scarborough Mirror. "RapidTO is an opportunity to dramatically improve service on key bus corridors. Yet rather than increase service on bus lanes, the TTC has opted to reduce frequency and remove 24 of 69 local stops on the Eglinton East corridor. The TTC is rebranding a service cut as an improvement, just as it did with the introduction of the express bus network, which came at the expense of some lo...cal bus service." https://www.toronto.com//10223591--where-s-my-stop-the-tt/

SAVE OUR STOPS! The TTC’s removal of 24 local bus stops along the Eglinton East RapidTO corridor violates its own service standards. Local stops should be between 300-400 metres, but the majority of new stops are spaced further according to a new analysis by Hayden Poon. Nita Goswami speaks out about TTC crowding! Nita spoke to the TTC Board last month urging them to run more service. Now all laid off bus operators are coming back in November. But more is needed. On October 11th, the City of Toronto will be removing the bus stops on both sides of Cedar Drive & Eglinton. These bus stops are crucial for working class, immi...grant, and racialized families who live in the half dozen high rises around these stops. Most of us in the neighbourhood do not drive, and we rely on that stop to get to work or access groceries. Why are they removing the stop? This may mean less time spent by a driver on his route, but that comes at the cost adding an extra 5 -10 minutes walk without a sidewalk for thousands of people in the half dozen high-rises who rely on this bus stop. And if you're elderly or have limited mobility, forget about it. Long time resident Mike McKenzie shares why this is such a serious problem for the neighbourhood.
