Today, Costa Rica adopted a new constitutional reform that guarantees access to water for all. It is a human, basic and inherent right for all the people of Costa Rica. As such, it will now be written in as a constitutional right.... Every person has the basic and inherent right of access to drinking water, as an essential part of everyday life. This new constitutional provision also says that access to water for human consumption will have priority over other uses. President Alvarado stressed: The signing of this law occurs in a context of national emergency, placing the health of people ahead of any interest, this, in reference to the current corona virus pandemic. The current Minister of the Environment, Carlos Manuel Rodríguez, said that once enacted, this reform will create modifications to the current water resources law which will put this new constitutional law into practice.
