On behalf of the YFC Winnipeg Board of Directors, I am pleased to announce that Cliff Heide has been called to the position of Executive Director of YFC Winnip...eg, effective January 1, 2020 says YFC Winnipeg Board Chair, Russ Friesen. Cliff has been ministering in YFC Winnipeg for over 18 years, most recently as Senior Ministry Director. The Board is confident that under Cliff's leadership YFC Winnipeg will continue grow in its ability to reach youth in Manitoba. Heide began his journey with YFC while attending Providence College. He began volunteering at The Edge (a YFC skateboard program) and there got excited about youth ministry. At the time my studies focused on business and organizational leadership, says Heide. But my time at The Edge really shifted my outlook on what youth ministry was, and I felt God pulling me in that direction. Heide joined the staff at The Edge in 2001, and a few years later he assumed the Program Director role at The Edge. In 2015 Heide answered God’s call once again to become a Senior Ministry Director, supervising several YFC program directors. I am honoured to be given this opportunity to serve as Executive Director, says Heide, and am confident in doing so because I know firsthand that we have an amazing team serving here at YFC. The Board and YFC Winnipeg staff would also like to extend its gratitude and recognition of John Courtney as he steps down as Executive Director effective December 31, 2019, after 47 years of service. Under John's leadership and ministry YFC Winnipeg has reached tens of thousands with the gospel and built an organization that ministers to Youth on a much larger scale than we could have imagined. John leaves behind a legacy at YFC that will continue to impact the lives of youth for years to come. It has been my prayer and passion that YFC’s best years are ahead and that the mission and ministry of Youth for Christ will continue to thrive says Courtney. The Board’s choice of Cliff gives me great comfort in knowing the mission of YFC is safe. Cliff is a deeply spiritual person who believes in the power of the gospel. I’ve been blessed to work with amazing staff, a committed Board of Directors and a strong senior leadership team. It has been an honour to be a part of the YFC family for so many years. Founded in 1954, YFC Winnipeg is one of the largest YFC chapters in North America with over 70 missionary staff and 400+ volunteers working with over 11,000 youth last year. The mission to see the hope and potential in every young person has helped form a diverse array of youth programming (Ball Hockey, Soccer, Rig Fitness Centre, Turning Point Counselling Centre, New Hope for Teen Parents, the Edge Skatepark, Work Force, King St. Drop-in, the Rock Climbing Gym, Masterworks Dance Studio, Camp Cedarwood, and satellite locations in Arborg, Carman, Gimli, Niverville, Selkirk, Stonewall, and St. Pierre-Jolys.) Please join us in welcoming Cliff to his new role in YFC Winnipeg and supporting him and the entire YFC Winnipeg ministry in our prayers, encouragement, and financial support. The World Health Organization recently included "burnout" in its International Classification of Diseases, calling it an occupational phenomenon that results from chronic workplace stress. Every year, suicide is among the top 20 leading causes of death globally for people of all ages. It is responsible for over 800,000 deaths, which equates to one suicide every 40 seconds. For each suicide approximately 135 people suffer intense grief or are otherwise affected. This amounts to 108 million people per year who are profoundly impacted by suicidal behaviour. Preventing suicide is often possible and you are a key player in its prevention! You can make a difference ...- as a member of society, as a child, as a parent, as a friend, as a colleague or as a neighbour. Here are some things you can do: - Help raise awareness - Educate yourself and others about the causes of suicide and the warning signs for suicide - Show compassion and care for those who are in distress in your community - Question the stigma associated with suicide, suicidal behaviour and mental health problems - Share your own experiences Let’s all do our part and work together to prevent suicide. #WorldSuicidePreventionDay2019 #WSPD Info taken from: https://www.iasp.info/wspd/pdf/2019/2019_wspd_brochure.pdf

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD). The theme this year is Working Together to Prevent Suicide. This is a good reminder as we all have a role to play and together we can collectively address the challenges presented by suicidal behaviour in society today. Here are a few things you can do: 1. Take a minute to notice what is going on with you, your family, your friends and your colleagues 2. Take a minute to reach out and start a conversation if you notice something... is different 3. Take a minute to find out what help is available for both you and others For more info: https://www.iasp.info/wspd/pdf/2019/2019_wspd_brochure.pdf #WorldSuicidePreventionDay2019 #WSPD

But the truth is, your teen is sending you messages with their behavior....The key is whether you are willing to respond to the real message behind their anger". https://www.mindful.org/what-your-teen-is-really-saying-w/
