Congratulations to the people of Caldwell First Nation.

Turtle Back Consulting & Indigenous Awareness Training 09.02.2021

Yesterday I spent the day with the last two groups from the University of Ottawa Protection Services. It was a pleasure to provide the first ever Indigenous Awareness Training to them. Hopefully the start of a good thing.

Tomorrow is Orange Shirt Day. It is a day of national recognition of Indian Residential School survivors and to remember those children that didn't survive their time in these Hellholes. I will proudly wear my orange shirt as I think of my friends that are survivors of residential schools. I will proudly wear my orange shirt as I think of the horrors all those children went through. All the suffering that the parents of those children went though. Wear your orange shirt, and remember that Every Child Matters. If you don't understand the reason for remembering and supporting our residential school survivors and those children that died there, for various reasons, then contact me and we can talk.

In case you missed it it..... Yesterday, two former Indian Residential School locations were designated as National Historic Sites by Parks Canada. The Portage la Prairie Indian Residential School in Manitoba and the Shubenacadie Indian Residential School on Nova Scotia. These are but two of the many Indian Residential Schools, were many of our children were broken and by extension so were their families ( both present and future). Nothing but good wishes and thoughts go out to those survivors of these institutions. The Portage la Prairie building still stands and is in use as offices. The Shubenacadie school was lost to fire many years ago and the property is now in use for industrial purposes.

Wow, the time is passing quickly. It has been a summer of newness and change. We are still looking forward to getting back to Belleville PS for one more session. Yes, Covid-19 safety procedures interrupted us before getting that last session in. Also, we are now looking forward to, and preparing for, our upcoming sessions for Indigenous Awareness training with the University of Ottawa Protection Services. We will be seeing them in October. Please be kind to each other and stay safe. Remember the Seven Sacred Teachings and practice at least one each day. Enjoy your smudge and open your eye, mind and heart.

Had the opportunity last week to be on CBC radio Ontario Morning show last Friday. Spoke with host about training at Belleville PS, and how the rail blockades that were happening at the time affected the training/acceptance, the recent incident of a Belleville officer's social media post (that occurred some time ago). Don't lose sight of the big picture people, walk the path and honour the Grandfathers.

Hope that everyone is doing as well as possible under these trying times. This pandemic has paused the training we were doing with Belleville PS. Unfortunately, we have only one session to go. Not to worry, but one day soon we will be able to get it in. In the meantime. everyone please stay home and stay safe. We will make it through to the other side of this, with diligence and patience. Please be kind to each other.
