Skylar Astin, actor and singer in theatre, film, and television, has recently stayed with us while working with Larry in the studio on his original material, which features some incredibly catchy and infectious songs. Well known for his roles in the Pitch Perfect films 1 & 2, Skylar can currently be seen as Max on the NBC series Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, in production for Season 2. #skylarastin #turtlerecording #zoeysextraordinaryplaylist

Recording artist Kerry Badgley recently had us out to record his concert at the Sullivan Hall in Surrey. Kerry's band included Frank Soda on guitar, Budd Marr on bass, Wes Lawrie on drums and special guest vocalist Rachel Layne, who also opened the show. The recording was engineered by Brad Graham with our mobile recording rig, which includes our ProTools HD system, Apogee converters, and a rack of vintage Langevin AM16 mic preamps.

ANALOG TAPE RESTORATION and DIGITAL TRANSFERS - At Turtle we specialize in all things analog, including tape restoration through baking, and high definition digital transfers. We've restored tapes from just about every major studio from the heyday of analog recording in Vancouver. Recently we transfered 3 reels from the band TALK PROPER, recorded at Mushroom Studios in 1987 and 1988. The sessions were engineered by Greg Reely, and Paul Hyde produced the 1988 single for the band. TALK PROPER members included Pete McCormack on vocals, Steve Carter on bass, Brooks Patterson on guitar and Keith McTaggart on drums. Check out this short video of the digital transfer.

Chilliwack metal band Medevil has just spent the week with us tracking drums for their upcoming 2nd full length album. Medevil (pronounced medieval) features Brett Gibbs and Gary Cordsen on guitars, Eric Wesa on bass, Chris Malcky on drums and Liam Collingwood on vocals. Their music is well-crafted, high energy, fast paced and could be described as "power thrash".

Jessica Heaven was recently in to start a 6 song EP which is made up of Pop and Gospel tunes that have undergone some Jazz reharmonization. Each song has a deeply personal meaning and is dedicated to loved ones and members of her community that she has lost. Thanks to Darren Radtke (bass) and Micheal Creber (piano) for their mentor ship and collaborative creativity on the arrangements. Turtle Engineer Brad Graham captured this live off the floor using 2 tape for the full analog experience.

Bobby Dixon has been in working on his new song "Somebody Save Me". Bobby has laid down vocals, bass and rhythm guitar with the help of Chase Anderson on drums, and Mike Federici on some blazing lead guitar. The song is so catchy it's dangerous to even hear it once!

Megacorp Industry is a new band featuring Scott Larson on vocals and guitar, Doug Naugler on bass and Eric Breitenback on drums. The band just laid down the bed tracks for five great new songs written by Scott. The former frontman for Evil Roy Slade and Desert Radio, Scott Larson is no stranger to us at Turtle, he was also head of our sales team for Turtle Records back when we were operating the label out of our Richmond studio. Great to have Scott back recording again!

We are saddened to hear today that our old friend Robert Ford has passed away. Robert with Dennis Crews founded the Vancouver Celtic rock band The Stoaters. In 1993 we built our Richmond studio and started a record label, The Stoaters were the first to record and "Keep The Head" was our first release on Turtle Records. Robert's singing, songwriting and talent on guitar was totally unique and simply amazing. Included here are some pics from the making of The Stoaters "No Way Out" video, and leaving to tour the album across Canada. Rest in Peace Robert. www.facebook.com/robert.ford.581525

-LIVE RECORDING- In addition to our new studio in South Surrey we still offer the best in on-location recording. If you'd like to capture the live energy of your next performance give us a call! Back in 1987 when we first started it was all about remote recording, some of you may remember our name was TURTLE MOBILE RECORDING. Back then we needed a studio built into a large truck to carry all the analog tape machines and equipment, now we can provide the same quality wit...h a few rack cases. Our main recording format on-location is Protools HD, and we still use the same rack of vintage Langevin AM16 mic preamps that gave us great success with live recordings for artists such as Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Bryan Adams, Sarah McLachlan, Michael Buble, Kenny G, etc.... Visit our website www.turtlerecording.com for more info. pictured below is our recent recording at the Kay Meek Center, West Vancouver
