I ran across my stash of musk ox horns this morning, there’s loads of carving material there for sure!

I salvaged this sweet copper with some amazing patina from a large wooden beam that I take must have come from a fairly large ship of some type that I plan on creating some nautical themed jewellery with.

I decided to get a start on another piece carved out of woolly mammoth tusk that I’d drawn a few years back. Sometimes it’s good to take a break on a piece, especially when it’s getting to the final stages and there’s a lot of fine detail work going into a carving. I tend to be able to pick up little things that need evening out some, or spots I need to add more detail to when I go back to the main piece....

Here’s the bison and musk ox horns I’m going to use to finish creating this pendant from. The second pic shows the quick draft of one idea I have for the backing piece from the bison horn. It’s a bit oversized at this point, and now I’m trying to design the second piece from the musk ox horn that’ll sit directly behind the mammoth tusk skull?

I found my 90 diamond flywheel bur while setting up shop today. They’re what is used to make those nice, bright, fancy accent cuts in jewellery shown in the third pic. Well, as you can see in pic#2, they’re not cheap to buy, so I’m going to be super careful when using this one! I learn an expensive lesson from the first one I owned when I instantly shattered the diamond from approaching the piece too quickly and not easing into the cut, won’t be doing that with this one!

Here’s what I’ve been working on for the past few days now that the shop is getting set up. I’m not able to spend too much time at the bench carving with my bad back and hips, so it’s taking me a while to get to this point. I’m hoping I’ll be able to build up more tolerance for the discomfort so I’m able to spend more and more time creating my art? I decided to challenge myself to create something with a lot of detail after not carving for such a long time to see if I still have it? There’s still lots of work to do to it in order to even things up and add more detail but it’s coming along!
