One month from today is Christmas Day. This year it will be a very different celebration than past years. The corona virus has changed so many of our traditional events. In light of Premier Ford’s announcement yesterday which extended the latest restrictions on group gatherings province wide, the Festival committee has decided that this year’s event has to be canceled. This is sad news for many people but is the responsible thing for us to do. We hope that everyone stays safe and well and that the festival can continue successfully in 2021!

I hope everyone has enjoyed this long weekend while using safe health practices. 4 months from today should be the opening day for the 17th Annual Tweed Festival of Trees. However, that opening is still on hold for another little while as we see how the number of cases of Covid turns out as we move into the fall months. The Festival is so well attended especially on Saturday that we could easily go over the current number of people allowed indoors. We will follow the direction given by our provincial and local health officials but are hopeful that Ontario and local residents continue to do so as well. Stay tuned for further updates.

Corona Virus and the Festival??? So many events through until the fall have been cancelled because of the the unprecedented situation we are in with this virus. At this time we are hopeful that in December the festival in some form may happen but are holding off making that decision for a few more months. Therefore committee members will not be delivering letters to potential sponsors in June as we have in the last 16 years. We are sensitive to the economic situation that bu...sinesses and individuals may find themselves in and do not wish to put any additional stress on them by asking for support. We will wait and watch for guidance from health officials as the months progress. Until then we wish our sponsors, volunteers and visitors good health by staying safe and following guidelines set our for us as we move forward. See more

Congratulations to the Kiwanis Club of Tweed for their vision for an accessible playground at Tweed Memorial Park. The Festival of Trees was pleased to present them with $5000 this year and will commit another $5000 for next year.
