Our team had a great time at the Ontario Sign Association hockey tournament last week. Our founder Bill had the opportunity to kick off the tournament and share some wisdom alongside Robert 'Mcduff' Blyth from Nummax. While Twilight didn't take home the title, it's always fun to spend a day at rink and take a step back from the hustle of everyday work.
Great insight from one of our team members today. Happy Friday! Back home in Cuba, I finished university and had to serve two years in the military. Everyone has to do 2 years. When I finished I worked my way up through a company and was in a management role before coming to Canada. There’s a big barrier coming to Canada. Your credit gets reset, jobs need Canadian experience It’s hard at first. I’m able to support my family in Canada now and things are a lot easier for us t...han before Back home it’s not easy to just go put gas in the car or buy groceries. You have to save up for stuff like that. Here you can just go to Walmart or the gas station and grab what you want. But back home it’s not that easy. Alberto Pena Reyes, Shipping and Receiving
Our guys are always proud of their work. An illuminated sign with 336 square feet requires 22 different power supplies. Not easy stuff. Rome wasn’t built in a day!
Our team did some exploring on the Toronto skyline on Friday. We might just be making another change to that pretty view soon!
I love my guitars and I could play guitar all day. They say music is like learning a language which is funny because I suck at learning languages. I have a good ear for music, but I can’t read it. I can pick up almost any instrument and play, and I can usually figure it out pretty quickly. Craig Pharoah, Sales and Marketing Manager
Throwback Thursday! Signage has changed a lot in the last 25 years, and perhaps hairstyles have changed even more! This is a snapshot from our facility in the late 90s, showing one of our fabricators putting the finishing touches on some electrical wiring.... #throwbackthursday
I’m a big Halloween freak. I take the day off every year. Mike Soares, Painter
We’ve just finished building a couple of custom signs for Nike and Dick Sporting Goods. The Nike Swoosh is hard to replicate with faux neon, so we found a way to make it look bright anyway using our Acrylishell. Still fully illuminated and sleek, but doesn’t require alterations to the logo to make it happen. Excited to see these go up soon! @ Bolton, Ontario
Teamwork makes the dream work! Graeme and other members of the team are putting together a cool sign for a new store concept. Some of you might even recognize the logo! @ Bolton, Ontario
Let’s end the week with a throwback that all 90s kids will remember. CDs, paperback books and Future Shop! We made these signs over 20 years ago and found these photos in our archives

What worried you most about raising two daughters? The whole social media thing. There’s so many more dangers out there now, especially stalkers and bullying. It’s so scary because it’s so anonymous, a person doesn’t have to physically be in front of you anymore. I also worry about them growing up with the bias of being a woman in business. I want them to have great opportunities, because sometimes it’s not easy as a woman. It’s a bit better these days, but pay discriminatio...n was prevalent for me early on, and I don’t want my daughters to go through that like I did. Diana Figliano, Purchaser
We had a great time converting our shop floor into a party room! Secret Santa, a catered lunch, ugly Christmas sweaters and some funny hats make for a great way to end the decade! #uglychristmassweater #secretsanta @ Bolton, Ontario
Temporary signs call for temporary measures! One of our partners needs a sign before Christmas ASAP so we’re preparing to ship the framework! @ Bolton, Ontario
My mom’s dad was kidnapped by North Korea during the war. He was a well-known guy and had some skills that they needed. So he disappeared and we don’t know what happened to him. It was a war zone man. People were just worried about surviving on a daily basis with that stuff going on. There were a few people in our family that got kidnapped. It was tough for my parents. William Kim, National Account Manager
Food for thought from Signstein on a Monday!
Here's some insight into how your favourite stores make their signs! The end result is pretty cool, but how we get there is even cooler. Check out some photos from our recent project with Farm Boy
Where would you like to retire? What? Have you thought about retirement?... Nope. Greg Dixon, Project Manager
What worries you most about climate change? The future of my kids. So many things can be done differently to reduce the impact and nothing’s happening. I don’t know if people ignore it or don’t understand it, but there’s so much that’s changing and it’s not good and we’re not acting fast enough. You look at the storms these days. When I was a kid growing up you’d see the odd tornado or heavy thunderstorm. Now any storm you get turns into a 3-day event. You get massive freez...ing rain and weather that you just didn’t see 30 years ago. I won’t be around to see it. Climate change isn’t going to affect us in my lifetime. But I worry about my kids and what’s going to happen to them. Dave Shaw, Production Supervisor
