We're happy to be a part of Anadromous Now and hope you will join us on this trip... Anadromous Now- The Sustainable Angler | Part 1 Herring are a keystone species in British Columbia. Squamish Streamkeepers, led by Jonn Matsen, along with volunteers from the local angling community, have been working for several years to rebuild the Cherry Point herring population that spawn in False Creek every Spring. They have been so successful that after 7 years they are asking Fisheries and Oceans Canada for permission to move some of the excessive spawn to Coal harbour, where there is still intact eelgrass habitat for the herring. As anglers we play a vital role in monitoring, rebuilding, and maintaining healthy fish habitat. From herring to salmon to the southern resident Killer Whales, anglers are essential participants in conservation of our natural world.
