Two Sisters Flower Co. 17.12.2020

Remember how bad the flowering kale looked this year? Bahahahaha! We have learned so much over the past couple of years. Although much of what we have grown has been successful, the truth is, some things have flopped. Take our flowering kale for example; At the beginning of July the little plants were richly coloured in jewelled hues, and we could not wait for them to mature so that we could use them in our bouquets. However, right around the time that we should have cove...red the plants with bug netting, we got busy with our families and totally forgot. Because, well, kids. After coming home from a weekend away, we found our poor little kale absolutely decimated by flea beetles, rendering our whole crop unusable. Sad, sad day. We decided to leave the kale instead of pulling it out so that it could be a bug trap in hopes of diverting bugs away from other plants. Plus, we got a good chuckle (and I’m sure our guests did too) every time we walk past our pathetic kale crop. Not everything about flower farming is all rosy. It’s a lot of work, and includes some hard-earned lessons. But as long as we can learn from our missteps and not take our failures too seriously, our experiences provide valuable opportunities to improve upon our future. As every good farmer knows, there’s always next year! . Photo cred: @delina.langridge See more

Looking toward 2021 like... This past weekend we spent time at the @gardenofedengreenhouse Christmas market, and it was all kinds of beautiful!! The morning’s activities ended with a sleigh ride around the village of Blumenort. We are loving all of the outdoor activities that make this winter a bit more bright! . #twosistersflowerco #winter #saskatchewan #sleighride #merryandbright

Zinnias are a staple in our cutting garden. They always seem to start out less than mediocre, then with a hard cut and some sun they turn out better than we think they will! There are so many different varieties: from large to small, tall to short, and so many different colours. It’s worked well for us to direct sow these in the spring.

These days have felt pretty heavy lately. We are trying to allow ourselves to grieve the loss of certain things like time spent with others, while simultaneously being grateful for all of the things we do still have. It’s a tough balance, and some days are easier than others to choose gratitude. So today we are going to look through pictures of the flowers we had this past summer and remember the joy they bring, while we look forward to filling the garden once again with beau...ty, laughter, and loved ones. If you’ve been following along in our insta stories, we’ve been highlighting local businesses in Swift Current for your Christmas shopping needs. Find our picks in the highlight button! Today is our spunky 3 year old niece’s birthday! Yesterday my older son and I took Addison through the garden and picked her whatever flowers she wanted. It was a special thing that I hope we can recreate every year. The joy this flower garden brings is incredible, and we love sharing its beauty with others. ||Lindsay|| #twosistersflowerco #flowerfarmer #saskatchewan #supportlocal

The first arrangement of the season was made a few weeks ago for our dear friend @juliadawnlove. Julia requested an arrangement to place at her Dad’s grave, so we knew we had to make something special that would honour him. We were inspired by a picture Julia’s Dad had taken of a striking red Saskatchewan sunset, so we endeavoured to create an arrangement using colours and materials that spoke to the photo, such as red poppies and yellow flowered canola. It was an absolute privilege to use our flowers as a medium to create art that gives comfort, honour, and joy. #twosistersflowerco #flowerfarmer #wegrewthis #supportlocal #saskatchewan #poppies #farmerflorist

We love flowers for so many reasons; their refreshing fragrance, the connection we feel to nature, and their ability to brighten a space are just a few. But by far the biggest pleasure we get from flowers is the joy they bring. Yesterday we received the sweetest note from a patron who bought flowers for his wife, detailing her reaction and how he got a second kiss for the personalized note attached to the bouquet. It brings us such satisfaction to know that the flowers we grow and sell are meaningful and appreciated! Here’s to another summer of spreading flower-filled joy! #twosistersflowerco #flowerfarmers #wegrewthis #swiftcurrent #supportlocal #farmerflorist #peonies

If you ain’t gardening, you ain’t cool! The past few months of social distancing has seen people take a renewed interest in the outdoors and in growing their own produce and flowers. Sometimes it takes a big life-altering change to slow down and shift our perspective so we can truly see the beauty in nature, the necessity of solitude, and the joy that comes from nurturing. Happy gardening, friends! . .... . #twosistersflowerco #flowerfarmers #ranunculus #gardenersofig #growlocal #support local #SwiftCurrent #happygardening #happygardeninglife #farmerflorist See more
